I would be grateful if someone would please recommend a collection of
such stories to start me off.
TIA
All of the collections are great. Search for them on amazon and make a
list of the them according to date of publication, and search for 2nd
hand copies on amazon or www.bookfinder.com. No need to pay full
price. It's important to read them in approximate order according to
date as the characters age and change.
And certainly collect the dvd's Leo Kern is incomparable as Rumpole
and the 2nd Hilda (I forget the actress's name)--is too. Mortimer kept
writing stories with Leo in mind. Leo was also the first Everyman in
Bolt's "A Man For All Season", which opened in London, and which I saw
in New York City with the original cast--Paul Scofield as Sr Thomas
More. Kern was fantastic as Everyman. Inexplicable why the recent
revival of the play, with Langhella, didn't include this character,
which was developed and used to unite the action in the play. Anyway,
Kern was great.
