MARK-OF-THE-BEA$T bar-code$/scanner$
ALL Christians are PROHIBITED by Revelation 14:9-11 from
cooperating with the "MARK-OF-THE-BEA$T" bar-code, OCR-
number, and magnetic-strip scanning systems, etc., (as found
in local libraries, supermarkets, retail establishments,
etc.), which also THREATEN to SUBVERT Individual Privacy and
Freedom.
The scanners can serve THE SAME CRIMINAL PURPOSE as the
TV cameras in the book "1984"!
The UPC bar-codes are probably the most blatant form of
the "MARK OF THE BEA$T" so far, with the "NUMBER OF THE
BEA$T", 666, ALREADY CODED INTO THEM. Each of the so-called
"guard patterns", pairs of thin lines spaced close together
at the beginning, middle, and end of each full-length UPC
bar-code, is IDENTICAL to one of the two codes for a 6.
The "MARKED" ID-card is ONLY ONE STEP AWAY from the
WRIST-TATTOO!
MICRO-CHIP IMPLANTS might be used in place of tattoos.

(700 Club is a place to get a snapshot of
the religious right's agenda, week to week, and I find it no more
offensive to watch than most other television.)
The preacher said the framing characters are 6s, and there
are three of them in each Universal Product Code.
Since I was taking a modulation-and-noise course, I checked out
the bar code. The preacher had found three of the five
framing characters in the code, but missed the direction-finding
characters. The UPC couldn't work (or the data couldn't
be encoded as efficiently) if its framing sequence were
an anagram, because products must be scannable in any orientation.
As I recall (don't have one in front of me now)
the actual sequence is 65d6d76, not 6d6d6, where d is the
"payload" data.
So, while it's fun party conversation to claim our "items of
commerce" are "marked with the number of his [the Beast's] name"
to show that we're now in the "end-time" of Revelations, it's not
exactly true.
Does anyone know which religious-right outfit is propagating
this error, and what they mean to accomplish by it?

From news items and flyers I read, it was started by a South Korean
cult called "The Mission for the Coming Days", which has some 20,000
members in Korea. There were tonnes of flyers for it around Ottawa's
'Chinatown'. They may have got the idea from a "doomsday book by
American evangelist Percy Collett" (*Globe and Mail*, Oct.24, 1992,
p.D2) Here's an excerpt from the same item:
"Mr. Lee [a cult leader] was charged last month with swindling
followers of up to $4 million. Prosecutors say he had $380,000 worth
of bonds with maturities as late as next May, indicating he did not
believe his own preachings." [These are the guys behind the "rapture"
scam.]"

Sorry, Rob. Think again.. look at the spec for said bar codes. On one side, the
codes are read in inverse video, and on the other they're read backwards. So,
bing. No theory :-) Unless the technique of 'backwards masking' (Hey, parents!
Don't feel guilty, blame Ozzy instead!) can be used with bar codes as well..
But anyway, backwards masking is pretty much dead as a theory.

Look, all a bar code represents is a series of numbers which could just as
easily be written down then typed in. Do you object to having a number on your
driver's licence, credit cards, passport?
