here aren't, you'll really enjoy this. If you're not a fan, you won't. The
first Chronicles of Thomas Covenant was the 2nd fantasy series I ever
read(after LOTR), so I am a big fan.
Donaldson sure knows how to jam a lot of angst in a book, this one has more
angst per page than any of his previous books. Its a good story though with
some nice twists and with none of the endless descriptive passages that
plague so much fantasy. I know the characters are wearing clothes, what
colour they are or what kind embroidery they have is not something I re call
being mentioned. Its refreshing to read a novel where you are required to
fill in the details mentally rather than having to read meticulous
descriptions of everything.
8/10 all round.

I think I read the first book of this series. It had a big black guy
called Vain, and the bad guy was ... ah fuck, I can't remember
anymore. It wasn't Darken Rahl, it was a Lord something-or-other.
Well, the good guy was a leper. That's all I remember really. It was
interesting. But not so interesting that I went out and got the rest
of the series.

It's not quite fantasy. Nor is it quite science-fiction. It's in that
weird floor-board crack between the two.
And it has lesbian elves and faeries who have (somehow) weird
faerie-on-elf lesbian sex.
And violence. Lots of violence.
Even though I happen to dislike the title Heroes Die. But that's
irrelevant, because Matt writes really really well. And he really
brutalises his characters. Physically and emotionally.
He also wrote several star wars books - New Jedi Order: Traitor, and
Clone Wars: Shatterpoint. And they're really good. The blood levels
are toned down, but there's still jungle warfare, dismemberment, and
martial arts.

In the bit you read are the paragraphs RIDICULOUSLY long, spanning pages at
a time? They are in the english translation. A book I tried reading "for
fun" and have yet to finish. The length of the paragraphs really make it
hard to read as there never seems to be a good time to take a mental break
while reading.
