I'm not sure if anyone else has tried these speed tweaks for cable modems
floating around the internet. Well I started reading about them and put
together my own registry settings and loaded them, and I seem to be getting
outrageous speeds from my cable box. I must have been on this site over 100
times in the past couple of days and my speed has never dropped below
4000kbps Is this odd or are people actually getting these speeds? The site
I'm testing my speed on is http://www.speedus.com Can others post there
results.

It's not abormal. 4000kbps / 8 = 500KB/s. That speed test is probably
using a 500k file (try not to confuse all the K/k's :). It's probably also
an uncompressed file and isn't a good an accurate test of speed. The best
way to test your speed is to go to a very high speed FTP site, like a Linux
distro and download a compressed file of at least 1 meg.

I tried the patch available at www.speedguide.com and boosted my
download speed from 2200 kbps. to 3750 kbps. It worked for me.

You must be running wide open to cookies, trojans and all.
I block cookies, referers and add's, and it won't even let me take the test.
I run Adsubtract to block this stuff, and I have the sound turned on for
cookies, and it sounds like a machine gun going off for 10 seconds straight.

In my opinion, the best way to test speed is in downloading a large file of at
least 15 megabytes. Do it at different times of the day off many different
servers all over the internet. Then you see what your real speed is. Also, if
your local ISP doesn't have a large file on a local server avail for download,
convince them to put one on one of their servers. Then you'll be able to test
your connection between you and your ISP without "going out onto the internet".

Adobe's FTP server (ftp.adobe.com) used to be quite fast. In fact, it was
sometimes faster than downloading "bigfile.z" from my local ISP!

Imo, the best way to test your download speed to the internet, is to
download files from the internet. Download them from west coast, east coast.
All over the place. That's what I do :)

I doubt with my firewall that I would be allowing trojans in. Plus I have to
deal with trojans on a regular basis at work so I'm pretty familer with how
they work. I'm just confused by how a Trojan had any realtion to that post.

I posted that, as the things that my computer blocked when I went to the URL
you posted got me out of there in a hurry.

I don't trust it. My speed was reported as 4043kbits/sec
Try this one instead:
http://www.dslreports.com/r3/dsl/stest
Test running..........
** Speed 1950(down)/396(up) kbps **
(At least 39 times faster than a 56k modem)
Finish.
East Coast server test. NEO.RR may be capped now.

Yup. Every data byte has a start and stop bit added to it. Else there is no
way to where the data byte is located, unless you have a synchronous clock
on another channel.

I believe you are thinking about serial communications.

TCP/IP packets do not have Start/Stop bits, you are thinking about
Serial communications.
