created for the new year. I sent out the newgroup message earlier
today. this is kind of a bad time to be creating new alt groups,
because all the silly newgrouping over the holidays means news admins
may ignore this one among all the others, but this group will probably
get okay propagation despite that. if necessary, I'll send out a
booster newgroup message after a while.

ob-satire:

I rather like the idea that atheism is a genetic defect. it means I
don't have to agonize over whether I could have avoided becoming one--
perhaps if I had said the right prayers (should it be "trespass"
instead of "debtors"?), if I had been less distracted by the slashes
of light from the stained-glass windows at church, if I had read
Aquinas instead of Asimov, or maybe if I had felt more guilt when I
masturbated on sundays--nothing like that; it's just a bad allele in
my genome sequence.

but what I really want to know is, can I sue my parents? I mean, it
was pretty irresponsible of them to just throw their eggs and sperm
together, careless of the results. a little contraception, maybe an
abortion, and my life as an atheist could have been avoided. can I
sue them for mental anguish due to genetic defects?

well, I suppose I shouldn't expect genetic sophistication from my
parents thirty years ago. probably the best I can do is help the
future if I ever decide to have children. it won't be easy to ensure
their genes are free of moral problems, but I guess I can still love
them if the genetic screening fails, even if they're born atheist.

I just hope they don't sue me.

maybe I can get a pre-natal agreement.

You'll be sorry! Now everybody will be asking - with a dumb stare -
What's a publius'? If it is for real and not a joke, I'll do my
best to keep it going, provided you promise to keep the Group on
your screen. Happy New Year - sincerely - PUBLIUS

Your description isn't correct; I'm still not jealous. ;)

alt.fan.julius is more popular either way.
