Hi!

After I finished Good Omens, I started to read Equal Rites, again. At the
moment I read translated books and I haven't got any PTerry's books in
English. So a question rose:

What is the name of the village where Esk was born?

Please, help to satisfy my curiosity,
kati

Also the name of a pub in Edinburgh... I was going to take a picture but

then thought that this group was probably already aware of it...

As has already been said, Bad Ass.
What is it called in Estonia? There's a story behind the (english)
name which was revealed in Carpe Jugulum....

...and it went something like this:
some bloke had a donkey, and tried to get it to cross a river. It got
half way and then refused to carry on. It wouldn't turn back either.
Then, for a reason I either can't remember or wasn't given a village
built up at the site [1] and they named it Bad Ass (=naughty donkey)
in the animals honour. Or possibly there was already a village there
and it got renamed.

[1] maybe some entrepreneur thought it would make a good tourist
attraction: 'Come see the famous 'bad ass(TM)!' Read the story of one
man and his calcitrant donkey in the Bad Ass visitors centre! Buy a
Bad Ass(TM) on a stick!'

Eastern end of Rose Street. It's actually called The Bad Ass, and has a
picture of a donkey...

[snipped donkey-related spoiler]

It's called Pahaperse. Very literal translation that unfortunately doesn't
involve any donkeys. Obviously the translator hadn't read Carpe Jugulum. :/

Now, I don't quite recall this quote from Lords and Ladies, unless it's
some Oggham runes which appear on the Long Man...

Care to elaborate?

<DELURK>

Pahaperse. Paha is on synonym to bad but perse is not donkey.
On problem with Estonian translation is that they are translated
different persons.

I thought the naming story was in ER, one of the first things Granny says, in
fact [1], but I may be wrong.

[1] I don't know for sure, as my copy of ER is in a box a few miles away,
'cause we're moving soon.

Oh, *why* didn't I catch up to this point earlier? I've just got
back - like five hours ago! - from three days in Edinburgh and
because I didn't know I didn't look for it!

You were in Edinburgh? You could have told me... I've been really bored
most of this week... ;-)
