Buggered if I an remember, but...

There is one anime series of people in robots fighting evil, the robots
combining to form a super robot, and as finishing move used something like
a lightsaber, only that it looks more like a katana.
When the baddie is hit, he breaks up in very much the same way...

I know this! I know this!

I even saw it at the cinema - had Dolph Lundgren in it. Aaargh! can't
remember the name though...

Premise was: Alien Bad Guy (ABG) comes to Earth to collect human
endorphins to be sold as illegal drugs back on his homeworld. Alien Cop
(AC) comes looking for ABG. AC and ABG have a big shoot-out during which
AC is mortally wounded. Along comes Earth Cop Dolph (ECD) with
obligatory whimpy side-kick, just in time to see AC's death-throes -
skin cracks, light shines through cracks, AC explodes. ECD then takes
AC's impressive gun and spends the rest of the film in pursuit of ABG,
culminating in a big fight where ECD kicks ABG's butt.

Am I the only one who will own up to having seen this?

Title may have been "We come in peace" or something.

I hope you didn't take this a slight on your writing
skills, I thought the idea was to get a laugh at the
expense of ludicrous things that take themselves seriously.

That's the peril of writing satire, how do we know
the difference between an annotation and a coincidence?

Though it does remind me of an interview with the
creator of the Simpsons, another comedy renowned
for satirising famous films/books etc. He was
amused at the number of people who wrote to him
congratulating him on his brilliant satire of
'50s Peruvian art movies about communist yak herders
(or something). He said Simpsons fans must be more
educated than him, he only ever watches Hollywood
blockbuster movies, the rest was just luck.

Mind you, when "Noel's House Party" did an advert
that was a satire of Heart of Darkness, it fell
completely flat. (I wonder why?)

btw. What about the others? Don't tell me the
Six Million Dollar man bit wasn't really a
reference, that had me in stitches thinking
it was, it would be a terrible anti-climax to
think it wasn't.

Anyway, FOC didn't just depend on the Golems.
I think it was the best for a long time, I really
like how Vimes character has developed. I hope
there's a cartoon version of it sometime, I can't
wait to see an animation of the:
"I think we'll leave it <twang> it will make a good
conversation piece."
scene.

I know that some one else has already mentioned that
Dorlf uses lines from RoboCop, but I don't think these
other scenes were mentioned.

Dorfl and the 'King' golem are very similar to the old
and new version of the Terminator in T2, when Dorfl is
'killed' the lights in his eyes go out, but he comes back
alive to finish the fight. Also, the 'King' is shattered
into several pieces, but pulls himself back together again,
like the T1000(?) in T2. Carrot attempts to jump on
the King's back and pull his brain out, like the end
scene from Robocop2, there's even the use of a metal
bar as a weapon in the same way as in the final fight scene
from T2.

The bit I like best though has to be when Carrot says:
"We can rebuild him, we have the pottery."

Six Million Dollar man, surely!

They are the only ones I can remember, but somehow
the scene with the King emitting light from all the
cracks in his skin reminds me of a scene from a film,
but I can't remember which one.

Barry.

That might be the one I'm thinking of.
Of course, I must have just seen a trailer

I don't know if it's just Not Done, but I can't help myself. Terry,
would you please consider my afproposal of afpmarriage? This is
just too perfect to let pass uncomplimented in the usual AFP, over-

Hope- the title is "Dark Angel"

I think is the film your thinking of. The alien guy has a great frisby
too but
I like the gun too!

Aha! Yes, of course. Dark Angel. Thank you, Nick - that's been bothering
me for a couple of days now. Just one in a long list of crap films to
which I have subjected myself.

On an entirely unrelated note, has anyone seen Steven Segal's latest
film?

Yes. It is completely un-memorable(?). Not much happens but it does
occur throughout the film. It's a "buddhist cop kills people and comes
under suspicion of everything" type film. His sidekick (Wes Snipes?)
has been in much better action movies, even Steven Segal has been in
better movies. And Erika Eleniak(sp?) and her chest aren't in it. :(

A blob of lava in human form, kind of like unbaked clay
perhaps?

It was called 'I Come In Peace' methinks. The pithy line from the
film was, "You go in pieces!" Arr. That Dolph, he's so slick.

I think you're probably right, I've just recently re-read his memoirs

and I think it may have influenced me somewhat =8-}...wurble, wibble...
can't remember which volume, either. Damn, now I'll have to go look.

Well, there you go - it just goes to show. It doesn't show any thing
specific, just a general willingness to show...

Hmmm...that sounds like a paraphrase of something else, too....

Yeah. Spike obviously likes the line. From the Goon Show, one of
Neddie's narration lines in _Napolean's Piano_ is
"Suddenly.....nothing happened. But it happened suddenly."

This is after the classic night-time jungle scene outside the manor
house with Ned and Major Bloodnok.
