The other is nice; hand painted and again framed picture depicting a female
warrior in red running towards the viewer holding a spear (no background) -
again signed. 24"x24". I understand that there's quite a demand for his work
now? Anyone any ideas?

No idea, but if you flog them to an AFPer at least you'll know they're
going to a good home.
Two ideas:
Genre artwork is usually less expensive than so-called "fine art", but
you can get a quick guess at a price tag by looking at what is being
asked for work of similar size and type, type being 1) signed framed
print of representative figure and 2) original artwork of representative
figure (that is, not abstract).
You could probably get an estimate from a professional art estimator,
for a fee, or find one of those road shows where people bring their
stuff in and maybe get to be one of the ones who get a free estimate.
Or you could get the wild-guess estimate, and offer it on eBay with
your estimate as the Reserve price, so you don't lose it for peanuts.
By the way, I hear there's some system in place now in the UK where
any resale must involve sending a percentage to the artist.
You might, of course, contact Paul Kidby himself and give him first
refusal.
I've bought genre artwork at conventions, usually for much less than
non-genre artwork goes for, even when the price was considered high
for genre work. (I've even had non-sf-fan friends doubt that a piece
was original because the price was so low, when I thought I had
spent far too much in auction fever. And yes, the piece is original.)
Since Paul Kidby is not only excellent, I think he has an assured
place in the genre, I would expect the original to go for over a
hundred USdollars, if not several hundred pounds, at fine art prices.
Whatever you do, let us know where it's being sold and what price
is being asked.

From Paul's web site
Librarian 1995
This was the first pencil print to be published by PJSM Prints back in
1995. It is now completely SOLD OUT, although one recently fetched £185 on
eBay.
