"Love To Love You Baby" came out when I was 13. I'll leave it as an
exercise for the class to deduce the effect that had on me (and on my
trousers).
"I Feel Love" was - in terms of mainstream pop - a revelation. At a time
when music produced by synths was not considered 'proper' music
(especially by the MU (1), who even tried to get synths banned, if you
please, in an interesting foreshadowing of the attitude of the whole
entertainment biz to the internet today), it was what those with no
sense of shame and Van Gogh's ear for music would call a 'game changer'.
Nothing in the charts had ever sounded like that before.
She was more than just a purveyor of disco, though. Her cover of Jon &
Vangelis' "State Of Independence" showed that, along with her matching
Barbra Streisand decibel for decibel on "No More Tears".
Diva.
