Hmmm, met the SO for lunch in town as is our wont on a Friday.

We made a lovely couple as she was wearing

http://www.paulkidby.com/tshirts/somethingwicked-1.htm with a gingham
skirt

whilst I was wearing

http://www.andy-sparrow.co.uk/shop/product/128w/index.html with torn
combats, hat, and my walking stick.

Both with combat boots (Not sure they go with a gingham skirt but what
the hell - you tell her, I'm not suicidal).

Completely unplanned/not discussed choice of clothing but a good
combination, the reactions were amusing.

The barman, who is used to us, just sighed and said "What do you want
today?"

"And do you have to wear shirts like that?"

"Nope, we can take them off"

So we ordered and looked for somewhere to sit.

The speed of an overweight Leftpondian tourist from a sitting start is
really quite remarkable..:-)[1]

[1]At this point I should point out that I'm just short of 6 foot and
the SO is only about 1/2" shorter with a worse temper.

They seem perfectly reasonable shirts to me. If you want "offensive"
shirts, try this story:

I agree. Mention of Congressmen is always seriously offensive.

Aside from that, it seemed quite First Amendment compliant.

"could have been seen as offensive to other passengers". Wasn't that why
she was wearing the shirt?

I found the shirt as a whole funny, but putting the word "fuck" on it
is going to offend a lot of people.

If the shirt said "If I wanted the government in my womb, I'd take a
senator to bed" that would get the same message across, and bother far
fewer people. But if your message alienates more people than it amuses
or persuades, then overall it's a failure.

The FA only constrains government, alas. It seems private institutions
can do what they like, IIANM.

Given that almost anything will offend someone I've given up worrying.
Someone took offense at my walking stick the other day, said I shouldn't
be allowed to walk around with it. I just looked her in the eye and
said "Well I can't walk around without it" and showed her the scars on
my leg.

She went away.

Sometimes the "expletive for effect" is actually quite effective, like
KBW "If it's Political it probably ain't fucking Correct"[1]. Adds the
emphasis and frankly I hear worse from the kids around here every day.

But anyway, here's one for Sunday morning before church, usual bad

The airline could have asked her to change ... the one word makes
the statement 'offencive speech' and so grounds for barring a
passenger from boarding.

According to the news article (linked above) they did ask her to
change, but in such a way that she missed her connecting flight.

I see. I wonder if it were opinions that the flight captain agreed
with whether he would have taken the time out of his busy professional
day to ensure that the passenger missed their connecting flight.
