Yuk! White chocolate is not chocolate - IIRC that is official
according to the EU. It's cetainly made of all sorts of chemicals
and stuff not many cocao (spelling?!*) beans in it. Still it tastes
alright I suppose - not sure how it would be with mint a bit sickly I
would guess. I'll stick to the good ole dark stuff.

White chocolate is made with cocoa butter and the usual other ingredients;
it just doesn't have the brown cocoa powder part that has the caffeine.

All the "chemicals and stuff" in white chocolate are in normal
chocolate as well. The only difference in ingredients is that white
chocolate has no cocoa/cocao.

Actualy White Chocolate is made from the same beans as "real" chocolate.
AFAIK it dosnt have the dark cocoa mass of the bean, and only the bit
that gives it the "lat" taste and texture from "chocolat" which is called
cocoa butter.
I think the EU recognises White chocolate as chocolate. Infact, EU
chocolate contains no Vegtable Oil, and is quite diferent from the
English version. (The chocolate distinction thus being one of the EU
standards not to be followed by many people)
No chocolate should require non-organic[1] chemicals, except for an
elmusifier which in many cases can be a natural ingredient.
Cadburys use E442(ie, in Dairy Milk) or E322(ie, coating Mini Rolls)
depending on the required texture. Any afp food scientists how know these
numbers ?

Bench tested here. They have my approval.
Yippee! Does that mean I can eat it then? (I'm not eating chocolate at the
moment, but don't ask me why - I've forgotten. I have noticed a distinct
tendency to fall asleep more easily, though, even if I drink coffee three
times a day...).
Probably not... I don't like it, anyway ;-(

I agree that, whatever the science/ingredients say, white chocolate is
not chocolate. It's *better* than chocolate.
It's like eating solid condensed milk.

I'm sorta really scared that the EU has standards fro what is and is not
chocolate... have they nothing better to do ?

Speaking of chocolate, whatever happened to Hazelnut Tim Tams?
(Non-Australian people: Tim Tams are a variety of choc bicky produced by
Arnotts - for more info see http://www.ace.unsw.edu.au/rc/timtam.htm - I

Frankly, no. But if there were not such a standard,
_all_ choc would be 50% soy bean fat, 50% sugar and
0.000001% taste and cocoa, so I guess we'd better
be grateful for it this one time.

....well, I, for one, could live with it being 50% sugar .. Only
kidding. :-)
Anything's better than a Hershey bar, IMO. (No offence, anyone who
likes them, but it is the most awful chocolate *flavoured* creation I
have ever had the misfortune to come across). Oh, and please, nobody
bother pedanting me on what constitutes "chocolate flavoured" as
opposed to "real chocolate" - I know there are differences; I was
merely using the term to highlight my distaste for Hersheys :-)

But that leaves only 50% for cocoa solids! Surely
everybody knows that real chocolate has at least
65%, preferably 75% cocoa? It's bad enough for the
teeth as it is, why add more sugar?
Richard
Probably the most disgusting form of 'chocolate' I've ever tasted
was a Hershey's 'Kiss', which tasted to me as if someone had -
well, pre-eaten something, then had a few too many pints of lager
on top of it... But I have to agree that the Hershey bar ran it a
close second.
I dunno if they're made of the same confection, but they're both
utter disgraces to the fair name of 'chocolate'.

Blasphemers! Infidels! Aside from having splediferous ads [1] Hershey's
chocolate is most important ingrediant in that most divine of foods-
s'mores. Mmm... And the kisses are the best ever candy for kids to hold
in their fists until it gets melty and all over them, and then they pop
it in their mouths, bite off the tip and roll the rest around until it
dissolves... Happy memories there. Certainly nothing disgusting about
it. Smooth texture proper milk chocolate richness. So we'll have no more
of this bashing of classics, hear?

Reminds me, Woolies' are doing a couple of cheap chocolate deals at the moment (two for
one on the 'weird' bars, and straight cheap dairy milk, whole nut and fruit 'n' nut).
