Has anyone noticed the similarities between the channel 4 series,
Father Ted, and Men at Arms? Ted is clearly Vimes, Jack is Nobby,
and Dougal is... erm.. Carrot. And there's Mrs Doyle.. Angua! Probably.

Oh dear.. it's all going horribly wrong.

Seriously, though [1], unless they have all the same characteristics in
great detail, they are probably just manifestations of the same
archetypes. If you look carefully at _any_ story, you will find the same
archetypal characters. [2]
