My name is Denise and I've lurked on this list for a few months, but
I've never posted, but I've a question to ask.
I'm attending Clemson University and to fulfill one of my humanities
requirements I decided to take a science fiction literature class. One
of the projects we have to do is write a web site on a science fiction
author. Mostly we just list the books/stories, etc. that the author has
done, but the professor also wants us to "add something" to the online
knowledge available on this author or her works.
So my question is: Is there anything that you would like to see on a
website about Anne McCaffrey that is not currently available on the web?
Thanks for any suggestions!

If you could do a part about her environement, it would be great! I always
wondered where she lived, where her inspiration comes from (don't tell me
"Her brain" please!). In other words, I think you could discribe her story
from the time she left USA after her divorce, and talk about her home in
Irlande where she began to write, etc. Of course, it requires an inquiry,
and information from Anne herself. But at least you have an official reason
to do so, and above all, time! :)

Hi Denise!
The only thing I can think of at the moment comes from someone else's recent
question about geneologies. The problem is most aren't known for more than
two generations (parents to child). Maybe you could chart the family tree
of F'lessan (with him I know you can go back a few generations on both
sides, using MoP mostly). Others that are complex enough (at least three
generations known) to be worth charting are:
Sean & Sorka's kids (see Dragonsdawn and maybe 2nd weyr)
Kimmer/Fusaiyuki from "Rescue Run"
Alessan & Nerilka's kids (see Nerilka's Story, of course)
Jaxom & Sharra's kids (see Renegades and DFlight)
Oooo! Another idea, since you said McCaffrey and not specifically Pern:
find all the appearances and psuedonyms for John Greene. If you don't know
what I'm talking about, here's the scoop: Anne's good friend John was
murdered in France, and ever since she's included someone of that name (in
some form) in her books, starting with Renegades. Of course this can be a
time intesive search... I'm sure many people in this ng could give you
various examples to get you started (myself included) if you're interested.
I've not found any non-Pern McCaffrey sites, besides book lists, so you
could do just about anything on her other books. I'd like to do a site on
this, and have actually gotten started, but I spend much more time on my
Pern site.
If you do want to see the bit I've done, go to
http://home.revealed.net/kwm/mccaffrey.htm
Hope some of this helps!

I agree with Sariel's comments.
Whilst there are plenty of web sites devoted to or including material
relating to PERN there appears to be very little information concerning any
of AM's other works. I am just ReReReRe reading the Rowan / Hive series and
suggest that this might make excellent material for your project. Masses of
characters, locations, plots and subs that would give you ample scope for a
new web site.

To email me change rompuserve to compuserve
'Stitch in Snow'
'Year of the Lucy'
(Personally I *don't like them all that much, but they're also Anne
McCaffrey)

It does have Crom, Nabol, and Telgar.
I'd like to know how to pronounce Asgenar. I usually pronounce it as a
dyslexic--Ass-en-ger cause I think it sounds nicer that way.
Was anyone else surprised by Groghe as Grow-gee? It sounds silly! I take
the last e as silent.

Well, I can't speak for anyone else, but after what happened to Dee
Dreslough I'm very wary of putting any of my Pern related art on the
web. If you want to see original Pern art, then joining one of the
offline fanzine clubs is probably the way to go.

Check out Harper's Window at www.geocities.com/~hannova
And the DelRey site ran a contest that generated a number of beautiful
pictures at www.randomhouse.com/delrey/pern/artcontest.html
Others exist as well, if you dig for them, but most center on characters
from fanfic.

May I ask what happened to Dee Dreslough? Or should I use my
imagination?

She's got an explanation at her website at

More details can be found in the dejanews archives. In another post
recently I included links to the most relevent details, but I can't remember
what the subject of that post was in Re: to at the moment...
