When Danny was asked if he believed in God during an AOL interview... he
replied, "I believe in Dog."
Methinks Danny is an atheist or agnostic. It's none of my business.
And I'll probably get flamed for this post. But I don't give a shit,
'cause I've got better things to do than worry about what someone I've
never met thinks about me.
That's all I have to say 'bout that.

Hmmm, I don't think so. Perhaps he doesn't go to church or whatever, but he
does seem to have some religious views and education. I dunno, little things
from him doing the Roserie corss sign on practially EVERY TV version of "Who Do
You Want To Be" (do you feel like a saint).
I'd actually say he's more catholic, but I'm not too sure, being that he has
Jewish, Russian, God only knows what else in his blood. They don't stricktly
believe in afterlife, and nor does he, juding by the Pluggage, com interview.
Just my thoughts.

Anyway, they have him listed under Agnostic or Ambiguous but never really
tell you which. They relied on Joshua Fruhlinger's interview (btw Josh,
still my fave) for the reasoning behind putting him on this particular list.
They quote that section about hell and afterlife.

I can give ya'll a definite answer (hopefully). I'll ask a friend of
Danny's when/if he calls me tonight. I'd rather be nosey than assume.

It's an interview published on the web. I read it too, and I have to
say that he _doesn't_ refer to himself as being jewish. He talks
about the afterlife and talks about heaven and hell and how several
religions see them, but he didn't say he was jewish (I'm not saying
he's not, I just don't know...).
Danny is Jewish. Weather he practices it or not, it's not my business or
anyone elses.
Says Zomby firmly, enigmatically, not revealing the source of his infomation.
Actually, yeah, he is Jewish. I actually knew as much within the first months
of my becoming an Elfman fan....though I don't remember how. It was
just.....there, I guess. Not that it really matters me either way....Jew,
Catholic, Christian, doesn't effect the great stuff the man pumps out anyway,
beit scores or Boingo....

I've read a lot of responses to this with people saying that it's none of
our business.
I disagree. If you read the lyrics to his songs I think it's clear that
this is an issue that Danny thinks about a lot, and he wouldn't write a song
about it unless he wanted you to think about it.
As far as I know, Danny was raised Jewish.
From songs like "Insanity" and "Fill the Void" and "Mary", you can tell that
Danny definitely has issues with religion and authority.
I remember reading when NMBC came out that he thought that the movie was
great except for all the good feeling Christmas stuff. I read that article
quite a few years ago, so I might be mis-quoting, but I thought he said
that,"I've always been bothered by religions."
I'd guess that he's either Atheist or Agnostic. From my interpretation of
the songs, I'd say that Danny feels that organized religions breed fear in
society. Specifically fanatic factions of religion that try to force their
beliefs on the rest of the world.

Well, so do I. That is, unfortunately, the function of most churches. It doesn't
make me agnostic however, since a church of this world organized by humans has
nothing to do with what may exist out there beyond our gaze, or spirituality. My
guess is that whatever religion it is Elfman follows, he can tell the difference
between the religious trappings created by society, and those which are not.
