Kegan, that adorable 5 yr old son of Pampyra is nearing his 100th hit. He
was on 79 this evening. Not only has he enjoyed watching the number grow,
but he has been getting in some great practice for number recognition. He
seems to have these double digits down pretty good. Help him hit the
triples please.

For those of you who have not yet seen his page, yes this post is on topic.
Both of my kids are preschool Elfman/Boingo fans and Kegan's page is an
Elfman/Boingo page.

http://members.tripod.com/~pampyra/kegan.htm

The two year old doesn't have a page yet, but she has moved on from calling
Elfman "shhhhhhong" (song) to calling him "Deeenee" (Danny). She recognizes
both his music and pictures/videos.

I don't force them, it's just what they are exposed to (a lot). They also
like Winnie the Pooh and Teletubbies and Nick Jr. and all that 'normal'
preschool stuff.

Anyrate, help make Kegan's day, give his page a hit.

Maybe not for you, but for a two year old it's very normal. Try to keep this
in mind next time you insult someones children.

Thanks Zombyclown.

As for those passing judgement on my kids...

My kids are quite normal. High energy normal, but normal. Extreme mischief
normal, but normal.

As for Teletubbies, I will not judge wheter or not they are normal because
I'm not sure what normal is for an alien from their planet. All Iknow is
they get on my nerves as much as if not more than Barney, but I thik they
are much cuter to look at. But my kids love them, and I love my kids, so I
watch them twice a day (again again).

And Laa Laa will be coming to live at our house on Christmas day so be
prepared for a 'Life with Laa Laa' page by the two year old. It will be a
special page for people who insult my children. It will overwrite all your
bookmarks and play the Teletubbies theme over and over...

Ok, soo that is my revenge dream and not reality...

Kiss my butt Zombieclown. What's the matter with you people anyway.
You're damn touchy. Your posts aren't even on topic anyway.

Yes I am and you know what, there is nothing wrong with the content of
tubbies. The only problem anyone has ever had with them besides being
completely annoying to an adult is that they talk like preschoolers.
Well... **newsflash** my preschoolers talk like preschoolers.

As for "on topic" Kegan's page is a Boingo page so it is on topic.

Looking back at your post you are right, you did not directly insult my
children, but blasting their little heros gives the implication that they
are somehow defective for liking them.

And it would have been much more amusing had you told Zombyclown to "bite"
your butt like the potty mouth recalled Po does. Guess you missed that one.

And I will always be touchy in matters concerning my kids. They are my
babies afterall.

Whether you love or hate Teletubbies, you all obviously like me enough to
want to humor my kid. Thanks a bunch. I got an ICQ message saying it had
hit 100 and I then popped in as visitor 101.

I feel the Boingo love. It's a bit ticklish. :) I like it.

Do they really say it's "Poe's turn to wear the skirt?" I picked this up from
someone's sig in another newsgroup. Just wondering Pam! :)

I know nothing about the skirt. I "watch" with my kids, but I am so zoned
that I really only hear "again again"

As for the talking Po.... They recalled one now called Potty Mouth Po. The
story (as in this may or may not be true) is that the defective chip made it
sound like (though the maker swears it's not what is actually said) "faggot,
faggot, faggot" and "bite my butt"

There are a bunch up for auction on eBay and Yahoo. the ones on the shelf
now are the 'had it's mouth washed out with soap' versions.

As for my opinion on Teletubbies... It's like Barney. It'snot for me to
like or dislike. It is not targeted at my particular demographic group.
However, the 2 to 6 year old crowd can't get enough of them. Lighten up
folks, I'm sure your parents weren't thrilled about Big Bird or Cookie
Monster needing to be watched EVERYDAY either.

Whoa... did anyone else just hear their mother's voice in their head saying
"Someday I hope you have a kid just like you..."?

I don't know if I'd necessarily consider it a children's show (it
cracks me up like nothing else), but I don't think there's anything
wrong with children watching it. <shrug> I certainly don't think it
was made with children specifically in mind.

H.R. Pufnstuf never had merchandising like this!!
At least they had better costumes. What's with the Teleunichs?!

Elektra Woman & Dyna Girl, Dr. Shrinker, etc. all attempted to have a

Hey there Liz,

I dig you. You've written some pretty cool stuff in the past and told me about
Faith No More breaking up.

Anyway, this one will be another one of my bastard semi-off topic long postings,
because you've touched a nerve.

First, I'll address the Space Ghost issue.

I've been to a couple of talks that Clayton (Zorak and Moltar) and the head
writers have given at the San Diego Comic Convention and I've meet Andy Merrel
(the head writer and voice of Brak).

Andy is an EXTREMELY cool guy.

Anyway, Ghost Planet is sort of kids show. It started on TBS at 2:00 in the
afternoon and then got moved to Cartoon Network. They try to sneak as much
adult humor as they can without getting into trouble. Since it's on such an
obscure channel, no one really seems to notice what they get away with a lot of
the time.

As for Coast to Coast, that's definitely for adults. It's on late at night,
they have pretty cool guests, and the humor is way beyond kids. Not in a
Southpark or Beavus and Butthead way, just in a demented way. I don't even
really know how to describe SGC2C. Zorak and Moltar rip on Space Ghost. They
all rip on the guests.

*The rest of this is extremely off topic, so don't read on if you don't want
to.*

And now for my rant (beware of random tangents):

Just because it's animated, does NOT mean it's for kids!!!!!!!!!!
This one really pisses me off.
I'm a HUGE animation fan, and there are a lot of things out there that are great
that haven't caught on because "cartoons are for kids".

Why does this touch a nerve with me? As an animation fan I am sick of a lot af
really good shows being watered down for children.
When Disney originally wanted to release Hunchback as a PG-13 flick, but had to
water it down "for the children". Screw that! Make them wait until they're
13.

In the syndicated episodes of the Simpsons, most all of the drug references have
been removed. Anyone should realize that the Simpsons is like watching a 30
minute commentary on modern society. If you sat your 6 year old in from of the
Simpsons would they understand it? Hell no!

Those of you Sailor Moon fans out there, guess what? You won't ever see the end
of the series. The later seasons have been deemed too violent for an American
audience.

Speaking of anime, Disney just bought the entire catalog of Hayao Miyazaki.
They just released "Kiki's Delivery Service" and are going to release "Mononoke
Hime" (Monster Princess). Fortunately, Miyazaki made a deal that Disney was not
to massacre any of his movies. We'll have to see if they keep their word, but
they're releasing "Mononoke Hime" through Miramax instead of Disney, so we might
be in luck. (side note: see "Kimba" to see where Disney "borrowed" most of the
ideas for the Lion King).

And this is where I really bitch. Anime has gone through a lot to get to US.
Why???? Because a small percentage of anime in Japan is "pornographic", so a
few people have made the generalization that all anime must be like that. It
might be interesting to note that Hentai (perverted) anime doesn't sell all that
well in Japan, but sells greater than any other type of anime in the US. What
does that say about our pent-up, sex scared society?

Anyway, a lot of anime series have more sophisticated story lines than most
American live action TV shows (see Maison Ikkoku).

Back to America.
Most of the head animators at Warner studios said that when they were making the
cartoon in the 40's and 50's, they were making the cartoons for adults.

"Batman: Mask of the Phantasm" is constantly called the best of all of the
Batman movies with the most character development and sophisticated story of all
of them.

John K. never tried to deny that "Ren and Stimpy" was a show for adults. He was
constantly quoted saying,"Screw the kids and this watered-down society."

The point I'm trying to make is that a drawn medium does not mean it's for
kids. Why is looking at a painting in an art gallery considered a sophisticated
pursuit, but looking at 100's of paintings/minute considered a child's pursuit.

Art is subjective dammit!

Well, I've run out of steam for now so there's no great conclusion.

For anime info, there's a history of anime on www.rightstuf.com
Then go to www.animehouse.com and order "The Vision of Escaflowne" because it's
damn good.

Even more off subject, has anyone seen the outpost.com commercial? It's so damn
funny! They shoot gerbils out of a cannon. That's great!

What's "aeon"?
What's "plympton"?

I don't know!

One great show is Dexter's Laboratory!
It's one of the few "kid" shows that has a lot of adult humor thrown in, but usually doesn't cross over into the realm of "gross" humor.
...not that I have a problem with gross humor.  It's just nice to see a kid oriented show that adults can dig too.
Pinkey and the Brain is another good one.

Speaking of Dexter, I always thought the theme was a Danny Elfman rip off.  I never did check to see who wrote it.  Does anyone know if it was Danny of Shirlie or just another "Danny Clone"?

Well, that was a nice way for me to get (sort of) back on topic for once.

Aeon is short for Aeon Flux, a cartoon that aired on MTV for a while, among other places...

Plympton is short for Bill Plymtpon, someone who is my personal favorite modern day cartoonist.  EVERYONE on this newsgroup, go to your local Blockbuster or Hollywood Video or whatever you have in your town, and pick up "The Tune."  Great flick.  A little short, but that's what you get from the first animated movie for which each individual frame was drawn from scratch by the artist.

Oops!!  That wasn't on topic, either!!  Ok....um....Aeon Flux first aired on MTV on Liquid Television, which also showed Slow Bob in the Lower Dimensions, which a lot of people involved in NmBC worked on.

My nephew is now 6 and has been an Elfman fan (due to the influences of me
and Batman) since he was about three. He always asks me for Elfman films and
scores for Christmas. I once taped off MFADT (I) for him, and whenever I
would play it, he would say within two seconds of the beginning of each
song, "This is Batman." or "This is Scrooged" or "This is from Edward
Scissorhands" -- even for movies he hadn't ever seen! Amazing because I
couldn't even do that myself. We were in Planet Hollywood once over
Halloween and he said, "This is Dead Man's Party!" and sure enough, I
strained my ears to hear it faintly playing from the speakers. One morning
at breakfast he said something about Danny Elfman and his dad said, "Who's
that?" and he started rattling through all the movies he's scored. Quite
impressive! But the neatest thing is that this past year, at age 5, he
started violin lessons! He's been taking Kindermusic classes from my former
piano teacher for a couple years now, and now is learning to play the
violin! I think that he is just the coolest kid ever. His name is Michael
Alexander Harrison -- watch for him on the music scene in about 15 years!
