Although the band itself is a freshly-spanked newborn, the members
are seasoned music veterans. Tory Cassis (vocals, guitar, trumpet) is
a Juno-nominated singer-songwriter & one of Toronto's premier swing
vocalists. David Matheson (vocals, guitar, piano, banjo) is a founding
member of Moxy Fruvous and current member of Betty & The Bobs. Murray
Foster (vocals, upright bass) is also a former Fruvous member and
currently tours with Great Big Sea.
They offer up tasty three-part harmony and instrumentation that
leads toward country and bluegrass & which help unify songs ranging
from the Mills Brothers to The Beach Boys, Gillian Welch & Tom Waits.
Dobro, trumpet upright bass, acoustic guitar and the harmonies give
the band the feel of something from Tennessee or West Virginia, circa
1943.
A handful of songs are drawn from the impressive back catalogues
of Dave and Tory as well. Through some strange musical alchemy, this
mix of songwriters and eras blend into an intimate, gorgeous sound of
called The Great Atomic Power.
The show: Wednesday May 30 2007 at 8:30pm
$10 in advance ($12/door).
