SAY NO MORE!!!
Speaking as someone who was in that audience, I laughed for no other reason
than just how bizarre it was to hear the name of a little city near me come out
of Terry Jones' mouth in the middle of the nudge-nudge sketch...talk about When
Worlds Collide! As far as I know there's nothing particularly funny about
Glendale... what about Pearly?
At least in the olden days, you'd frequently hear Glendale (or Pasadena)
used when a gag required a location with the cachet of middle-class
respectability, if not downright stodginess.

BTW: this may not actually be the reason, but it's always made a sick sort of
sense to me. If you don't like it, you can stick your head in a bucket of pirhana
fish.

When TJ mentions Purley in the original tv sketch, that's because Purley is
just such a place - middle class. Sorry if anyone fromPurley takes offence
at this!
I've heard that Erika Eleniak is from Glendale (Say no more!)
Thanks to everybody for your help

I agree, but can I stick my head in the bucket anyway?
