Peter Cook Dies

(London) -- British comic Peter Cook, who often teamed up with
Dudley Moore, has died.
His family days Cook died in a London hospital today of a
gastrointestinal hemorrhage. He was 57.
Cook achieved fame in the 60s in the comedy revue, "Beyond the
Fringe," appearing with Dudley Moore, Jonathan Miller and Alan Bennett.
Cook and Moore also had a British television hit with "Not Only But
Also" that ran on BBC briefly in the mid 1960s and again from 1970 to
1973.
While Moore want on to movies, Cook was content with a quieter life.
Cook's film roles include "The Wrong Box," "Bedazzled," and
"Yellowboard," which Cook co-wrote with the late Graham Chapman of Monte
Python fame.

How may Derek and Clive albums were there? I know of 3: 'Ad Nauseum'
and 'Come Again' (on vinyl or CD); and 'Live' (only on vinyl, as far
as I know).

If there's one I don't have, I must find it! D&C were integral
to my high school years. Great stuff, but not for the light-hearted
(or PC minded :)

I agree. To some degree I always felt sad Peter Cook never had the
success Dudley Moore did. His incredibly cold deadpan but always with a
definite laugh in his eyes, that's the only way I can describe his stage
persona.

I, too, would recommend "Bedazzled," as I think it's much more Cook's
film than Moore's (he actually makes Satan a figure of pathos, no mean
feat!)

His death was a really big shock. When a great comedian dies, it is, in
many ways, the saddest of all, because he takes all the laughter he
would have given us with him.

Thank you, Peter Cook, for the laughter you did give us.
