Training a nerd

sort of person who isn't spontaneously warm when dealing with people
(IRTJ on the Myers-Briggs scale, aka nerd). I may not naturally pick
up on all the social niceties, but I know their value. That's why I've
always been fond of etiquette/manners rules, because they are useful
reminders for what may not come naturally to me: introducing a new
person to a group, saying please and thank you for help, opening a
conversation by asking how someone is doing rather than going right to
some task I have in mind, etc. The last one has been my big goal
lately.
Just curious if 1) anyone else has this experience and is grateful that
manners smooths over similar rough edges, and 2) if so which 'rules'
are most helpful?
It's occuring to me that manners do provide a way for very different
people to deal with each other...even if you are not particularly nerdy
you can be glad that you systems admin or accountant remembers to say
hello!

When did R become a part of that assessment? I know Introvert and
Extravert, Intuitive or Sensing, Thinking or Feeling, Judging and
Perceptive. What's R for?

So take over the world! Then, you can establish the manners.
I am also an INTJ, but I am not interested in the top position.
If you will give me certain selected areas, I will be quite happy.
