Haven't seen these before so figured they'd be new to others here as well... both examples of "kinestasis" from Mike.

A commercial for Random House Encyclopedia from the 1970s.

The last part of a Universal-produced documentary called "US Art: The Gift Of Ourselves". Mike animated the "1970s" section of the film (guessing it's 5:22-6:14)

Yep, I uploaded the Lat & Long clip too :) Having a huge Jittlov phase at the moment which has involved purchasing a signed (not by Mike, alas) Kelly Freas poster as well as a WoSaT short 16mm print!

Luckily I managed to save the U.S. Art clip, perhaps I'll upload Mike's section (which is only about a minute long) later.

16mm copy? That's definitely a big phase then. But you can enjoy that on the original big-screen entertainment system. The clack-clack-clack noise is a traditional sound-effect. :-)

Thanks for that. I can't recall seeing that one before. Perhaps Ken Burns was once inspired by Mike? Perhaps Apple should have a "Mike Jittlov" effect in iMovie? :-)

Since that original reply I managed to track down another 16mm reel with WoSaT, Animato and Time Tripper too, so yep, no half-measures phase-wise ;)

Who knows, I may even see about getting them transferred in HD next year as it's likely to be some time until Mike is able to.

I had read Mike made TV commercials before WOSAT but this is the first time I've ever seen them. So Jittlovy! Thanks so much for uploading them.

An HD transfer of the film someday would be glorious.

Are they in good condition? Many copies are pretty red last I heard.

I haven't had an opportunity to watch them projected in person yet, but the guy I bought them from sent me some videos of them being projected and they look fairly pink, as you'd expect. (Apparently Mike only did a few Kodachrome prints of the films, the majority were Ektachrome which inevitably fades.)

Hopefully some digital colour correction could help counteract it, but still, it would be an improvement on the fifth-generation low-resolution MPEGs most of us are used to :)

Wow! I'd be willing to kick in some $ to help getting them transferred.

Further to the above, the full versions of Meadowlark Lemon Presents The World and US Art: The Gift Of Ourselves have actually wound up online (though not by me!). Check them out here:

Wow, that video is .... so ... clunky. Funny how the early part of the video jumps around a lot and has obvious scratches and small skips where it was probably spliced. By the time "The Adventures of Lat and Long" comes up, the scratches stop and picture stabilizes.

Thanks for posting all of these videos. It's great to actually make use of a Usenet group in 2016. Count me in as another hoping for a cleaned-up version of WOSAT.

Some of these clips reminded me of some sequences in this 1976 short, "Nutrition: The All-American Meal":

Other than "A film by William Crain" there are no credits on this film so there's nothing directly linking it to Mike. To me, the animation seems less advanced than Mike's work but the rapid-fire barrage of still photos seems like something he could have done.
