Sorry to hear about your brother had to go through.  I should cut back as well.  I am doing better since I get bottled water for free. :)  I go though 2-3 bottles of Crystal Geyser a day, it seems.

If I get TK'd by you in our next T1 get-together, I'll know why ;)

OK, just have to share.  It has now been 32 hours since I have had a caffinated soda!  My Dr. on Friday told me I need to cut down, but that was not possible.  I have been drinking a lot (i mean a lot) of soda for the past 15 years, and going to a can a day would not be possible, so I have stopped cold.  A few years back my brother had some major problems with his, well innards.  He had a hole in his intestine, and he was close to death, and was in bed for about 2-3 months.  The Dr. said that the sodas he drank helped make the hole.  So I need to quit, I drink much more than he does!

I remember a few months back someone quitting smoking (not that this is even close to that), but I just wanted to share!  So, if I get snappy, it is because I haven't had a Pepsi and I can't listen to the Boys all at the same time!

Well, it's pointless. Kind of like Marlboro Light 100's.

Yeah... the it goes through you.

Bil... Best of luck on cutting down/out. A few years ago I was downing iced tea something fierce. One day a I sat and could hear and feel my racing heart. I knew I had to cut down. Tried quitting cold turkey, but couldn't handle the lack of caffeine. I eventually weaned myself off. But then Steph had to go and get a job at Starbucks. Now we get a pound of Starbucks beans a week. Hard to keep it down to a couple cups a day.

My urologist (I've had kidney stones) told me:
1. Urine should be clear at every piss (except for times just after taking vitamin supplements).
2. I should be waking up to pee at least 2x through the night. ( I keep a glass of water on the nightstand and have a good gulp after peeing).
3. If I ever get a "thirst" feeling, I'm beginning to dehydrate. I should be drinking enough water to never get a thirsty feeling.

I try to drink water all day. If I have a cuppa joe, I'll drink at least 2x that in water. A glass an hour really isn't all that hard to do.

There's other ways I can tell I'm dehydrating. Most noticeable is dry skin. Another is a feeling I need to brush my teeth. Kinda like that morning breath feeling.

I guess water is nature's motor oil. It's best to keep it fresh.

Thanks All.

Eric, that is why I went to the Dr.  About 2 weeks ago, I was dizzy and my heart was beating out of my chest!  Scared me.  My doc says my heart is strong and well, but with as much caffeine I have been drinking, it just can't handle it any more!  I was up to about 64+ oz. every day.  64 was a normal day, but it almost never went lower than that!

Today I have had 64 oz of water, 24 oz of orange soda for lunch, and a can "Camel Piss."  I started looking at what drinks have caffeine and don't have caffeine, and I was surprised.  Barqs Root Beer has Caffeine, but Diet Barqs does not!  Ruby Red does, some orange drinks do, and many others.  HMMMMmmmmm.

I know Barqs has Caffeine and I have not checked the diet stuff yet. My
Girl Friend can't have caffeine so I always have to ask what brand of
root beer they serve, I usually get the "Regular" kind. I then explain I
need to know the BRAND so we can make the choice of root beer oe sprite.
Not sure about any orange soda that has caffeine but I do know that Mt
Dew has a ton in it.

Good luck with that Bil. I usually have a can a day of Pepsi, or Coke if
that is all that is around. I've gotten caffeine free Pepsi, regular not
diet, and personally I can't tell the difference. I know that when I have
talked to other people about it they say that they can tell a difference so
I'm probably just the exception. I've also never noticed any effects of
caffeine but it is probably the amount I take. I can drink Pepsi before I
go to bed and I go to sleep just like normal. You might want to give that a
try.

Have you tried any of the Hansens drinks? The colas and root beers have no caffine, as well as lower sodium levels. And on top of all that, they are excellent. Many flavors too. Try one.

>^,,^< The condition is called an "arrythmia" (sp?). I developed it
back in the late '80's, and the doc (a cardiologist) told me that control
of the condition was solely in my hands- that it would be worse when I
consumed too much caffeine.
He said it "could" lead to death, but only in the most extreme circumstances.
When I get the tachycardia (the irregular, pounding heartbeat), I know it's
time to cut back on the soda and coffee for a few hours. Although I can
drink my weight in coffee and soda every day, and it never keeps me awake,
I do slow up when that funky heartbeat starts up. Really scary, but it passes
quickly.

I'm just too damn set in my ways to give up the things I enjoy the most,
even if it means croaking sooner. ('Cept drugs and alcohol- I didn't want to
go THAT fast!! LOL)

So the key is moderation, I think, as with all things.

Bil also said:

i remember hearing about 2 years back that it would take
about 128(or was it 64???) cups of coffee per hour for 6
hours straight ... to kill you... now i really wish i could
remember this sourse... it could even have been m&b but it
was a while back... the study went on to say... you would
need 3 times the amount of soda if it was mt dew or 4 times
if it was coke...
that doesnt say its good for you to pound tons however..
because it also clogs the liver... diet soda is even worse
as the fake sugar can jack the brain up... i cant drink that
stuff... even before i knew about the brain thing.. i'd get
horrible headaches...

7-up has NO caffiene but tons of sugar...
neither does gatorade, at least last i heard it doesnt...but
its got tons of sugar too..

good luck... i tied that for about a week with my then wife
and she bout near killed me while doing thru a caffiene
crash...
i was able to maintain for about 3 or 4 months but i kept
hearing my dr pepper beckoning me..
you know your hooked when you can tell bottled from canned
from tap... just from the sizzle in the drink..

Congrats Bil!!  That is almost as hard as quitting smoking!  If you can get through a week or so you are in the home stretch.  I had to do that too, but not completely cold turkey.  I was going to Diedrich's and getting a gallon (seemed like) of coffee every morning.  I'd drink it in the car and by the time I got where I was going I was shaking like an old woman.  Plus I was getting a little snappy and short fused (ok, more so than usual :P)  I switched to mostly decaf and it helped alot.  Hang in there!

Speaking of Diedrichs... have you checked their stock lately? It's hanging around the $0.50 mark. Things are so bad that they're contemplating a reverse split. 1 to 4. For every 4 shares owned, you get 1.

We bought some stock a couple years ago when they bought the Coffee People chain (includes the Gloria Jean stores) which put them #2 to Starbucks. Then a couple franchisees scrapped their plans... sales dropped and a few other things happened. We sold recently at about $1.50 a share.

Don't be too surprised to see them go belly-up soon.

When I bought my T2 at Hastings, I saw those
cinnamon mints at the checkout, so I grabbed a tin
of them- hey, they were in a TIN. ;o)
I thought the tax on my game was a tad outrageous,
so as I'm walking back to the car, I look at my receipt-
**$4** for that little box of mints!!!!

Then I see the "caffeinated" on the lid. Whassup with
caffeine in MINTS?!? ~* Werid! *~

But some of those syrups are the highest quality you'll find,
I bet. Ross has learned a good deal about those- pick his brain
when you see him. He had to add to his knowledge when the
casino opened, because the liquor license hadn't been decided on,
so the tribe opted for a coffee bar until they decided on whether
or not to serve liquor, or just beer & wine.

Some of those syrups are to DIE for, taste-wise. Yum!!

Yeah, but there's nothing like getting to the bottom of the drink and
finding a bunch of caramel. The syrups incorporate too easily.

That's nothing. Every morning before class, my drink of choice
at a local coffee house is the equivalent of a Starbucks Venti
Iced Americano. On mornings where I'm forced to crawl out of

Be careful... you know what happens after your caffeine buzz wears off,

coloration in urine is from urea which is basically dead blood cells.  A marathon runner could after loosing 15lbs in sweat be so dehydrated that they pee near the color of blood.  some times your pee is yellow from your body having fought a battle of some virus or "invasion" hence a ton of dead blood cells are passed....   doctors tend to over simplify things because they think the typical patient is a moron.. which is an insult to most people and they dont even realize it. vita-b complex will make you pee orange, that is true..

whats funny is i remember some movie.. im not sure if it was rock n' roll high school or if it was troma high or something like that, but there was this character in the movie and he said something liek this.... " melvin help make the punch..." "... oh yeah melvin and how did you do that?..." " some times melvin pee red..."

i personally had gall stones.. and went the route of a holistic method that basically disolved the stones... it was mighty painful anyway.. and they dont care if they are in the liver or the gall or the bladder.. they deicde where they need to give you the most pain and get to business...

Just so I clear up what I meant, I think that caffeine free Pepsi tastes
like the real stuff. Diet Pepsi and Pepsi one taste a little like regular
Pepsi but then you get a horrible aftertaste and it isn't worth it. Regular

All my fault. I miss Leslie's analness. She and Mike had great fun
trying to one-up each other. and if they didn't catch the oopsie, I'd jump
in as third in line.
All this talk of poop made me think of Leslie's "Ghost Poopie", which
made me miss Leslie all the more, and I know Suzanne is quite educated,
so I thought......................

Sigh.
"No good deed goes unpunished".

You can opt out of the festivities, and leave us anal types to thrash
it about. :o)

winds up to thin... too watery.. or some times its like

Best tasting Coca-Cola mix IMHO is a Jack In The Box. Second place -
McDonald's.

I've had so much soda that I can TASTE when it's even a little bit off. Once in
a restaurant I told the waited their Sprite syrup was about to run out. He
checked - I was right. True story.

Try Starbucks Tazoberry drink. Its a fruit-type tea. Used to be called a
Tiazi. Have them make it with cream.

When I used to Manage a SUBWAY SANDWICH shop. I had a device that you
would run a sample of soda over it and light refracted telling you where
the mix was at.It was easy to use and keeped the sodas all correct in
taste. I think it was called a brick's or something like that.It has
been more then 10 years so cant remember the spelling of the gismo.

Oh, no, that is now how I like my coffee. That is how Squid likes HIS coffee
(and men).

I like my coffee strong, sweet and with a good cream in it. (take that any way
you have to).

You are more than welcome to tell Chandler that!!! LOL!!!

Hehee I wish. Actually, now that I think about it, no because
that just sounds nasty.

An extra shot of espresso. So it adds up to 5 shots of espresso
and some water poured over ice.

What scares isn't so much the amount of caffeine in it as much
as the fact that I'm NOT bouncing off the ceiling after one of
these

I happen to prefer diet over regular, but im just sick and twisted that way.
Im allergic to caffeine so i get the caffeine free, diet stuff and i like
it. the regular caffeine free stuff tastes just like the regular stuff i
cant taste the difference, but i have to have no caffeine because the stuff
gives me a bloody nose!

Boy... I sure would like to know which route you're taking to make it THIS
quick!

Every time I've had to come up North from San Diego, it's been AT LEAST 2.5
hours to hit L.A... of course, I guess it could be done in less time if you
make the trip at, say, 2AM :-)

Celina - who works in Del Mar and lives in Santee... and it takes .5 hour
just to get HOME :-p
