Madge replied, "No. Have you seen her lately?" - Implying that Joan wasn't
looking well. (This was around the Dick Tracey period.)
It was incredibly crass and bitchy for Madonna to make a comment like that
about Joan on national television. But it's very characteristic of Madonna's
nasty personality.
Ironically, Joan was then and still is much, much more attractive than Madonna.
Joan is a strikingly glamorous and beautiful woman. Madge, well, she's kinda
cute- but not aging particularly well. She's taken on that harsh, hardened look
italian women get as they grow old.

A year? Two maybe? No - over ten. A decade. What's the point in using
something that happened 10 years ago to demonstrate your current theory that
Madonna has a "nasty personality". People do change over time, and Madonna
was hardly a nasty personality back then. There are blips like this or other
choice comments, but hardly conclusive proof of a malevolent presence. She
was talking about HIV and gay rights before it became fashionable for
Hollywood to care.
Besides, it's utter hypocrisy to say Madonna was bad for saying Joan wasn't
looking too good sometime in the last millennium, then saying Madonna isn't
looking good today. Two wrongs don't make a right, but two children, 10
years and a new spirituality do make a very different person in Madonna.

table at an Oscar party around this same time.
I wonder if Joan ever said anything to Madonna? Ms. Collins hardly seems like
a pushover...
At any rate, Daniel's right, none of us want to be judged for stuff we did 10
years ago. I certainly don't!
