Sorry dude, just thought people should know first.
I recently picked up a copy off ebay for 2 bux (4 bux shipping). It
was hardly a steal (as I originally thought). If you don't have
access to DYRL, go ahead, give it a whirl. But you will be so sad (or
I'll be sad for you) because so much is cut out from the original.
What's gone?!
Minmei's songs... ok, I can live with that
some Zentradi dialogue scenes... not too bad
Roy's heroic death scene trimmed down... there's no honor here
Myria's fight scenes toned down... some cool shit
not to mention that the Australian(???) dubbers did a terrible job!!!
it's harder to understand the story because of the dubbing. They
screw up a lot of the original meaning in the dialogue.
On this note, I'll vulture some sales!!!

selling is it. It seems to be. I have a copy of it that someone made for me
years ago. It is in widescreen and seems to have every scene of the movie.
Hikaru still slaps Minmay, the guy still gets his head severed etc. CotB was
made like the Megazone 23 Part II dub, in english with Japanese subtitles at
the bottom, to teach Japanese people to speak English. When they released it
in America, they cut up the movie to make it "Just For Kids". To think that
people were actually learning English with on of the worst dubs ever... I
guess it sounded like a good idea at the time.

picture quality is terrible. The voice acting is... gosh. It makes Reba West
sound like Celine Dion (not that I like her either). Of course, it's pan and
scan ("pan and scan" is another name for the devil, I tell you! the devil!)
so I'm missing a nice chunk of the picture. And 20 mins. of cuts? Ouch. Roy

You'll be better off picking up a fansub until someone does. Widescreen, hi-fi
audio, no edits, etc. The song trasnlations on the general scripts going around
suck, but that's overall livable.

I have a laserdisk copy of the film, which is the widescreen edition,
subtitled in Japanse. Its uncut with all the goodies....I wouldn't trade
it for anything, with perhaps the exception of a DVD release of the
film. A little tidbit....many of the crew who did the dubbed voices in
DYRL have done many of the older Jackie Chan films.

It's not whining when I question how anyone can like anything about the cotb
dub, that is one of the bad dubs of all time of all films and has nothing to do
with Macross vs Robotech except in your mind. Also it's not honesty in saying
the voice acting of the cotb minmei is better than robotech minmei, it's just
your contempt for Robotech plain and simple. The common I hate robotech minmei
attitude you possess is what this is all about, not any real comparision
between the minmei in cotb and reba west. Or maybe you just prefer your voice
actresses speak english with heavy accents.

Well, Sega really does make good games, they just need to spend a while being a

By such rules I'd also love the Robotech version of Macross, the CotB edit, the
overall bad translation of the CothB dub, the dub in general, and Macross II.

No it doesn't, your overall implication is very prejudiced, as the current U.S.
standard of English (which has many accented varients of its own) is not
international, nor was it the first accent used with the English language.
