Having seen the Yamato's, and seen these, the beauty marks definately go to the
Yamato's. Even the blister pack Valkyries have better proportions than these.

Wow---exact same things I was thinking. Especially the intakes---it's as if
they took putty and filled in the whole area and painted them light grey. And
the slits are twice as long as the should be--makes the whole chest plate too
big, IMO. As for the nose cone----well, it hangs down all the way to the
bottom of the knees, 'nuff said. If you've got that issue of Toyfare, the ad
they placed actually shows better details. It appears they tried REALLY hard
to copy the Takatoku---flaws and all. The leg attachment bars are EXACTLY the
same shape (even the angled/rounded front end of the bar--scary---there's no
drawings anywhere to base that shape on, only the 1/55---but I'm not surprised
they just took someone else's design, rather than thinking up something new) ,
the head hangs just as low in fighter mode, the gun has the same cheap clip to
attach to the arm, and the gun would attach to the belly so low, you'd need
huge landing gear to keep it from scraping the ground.

The length of the nosecone isn't even the worst thing about it. It literally
has no definition. It's just a straight cylinder, cockpit & all. No buldges
anywhere, damned strange.

I'm not gonna lie, I hoped Toyami wouldn't be able to top the Yamato's, but I
didn't expect them to exactly match my low expectations of them. The Takatoku
molds must be rolling in their proverbial graves.
Honestly look how freaking big that nose appears to be. It is dreadfully
wrong.

No worries. Due to extremely bad reaction to the picture, Toyami is now
claiming it to only be a mock up, and are rushing to copy the Takatoku's
exactly in time for the San Diego Comic Con....
Can't admit when you're wrong? That's a CG picture of what the poseable
Macross figure may look like. It is not the Masterpeice Valkyrie.

I agree with you.
At last, the Macross *cough**cough* Toynami action-figures are really nice,
,though they're total rip-off of the Wonder Festival Valkyries.
Am I the only one to think Toynami can't create something of their own ?
I mean, the only new original stuff they created themselves are these Alphas
SDs.
All the Macross stuff by Toynami looks like refined/modified jap stuff, or at
least, it's so much "inspired" that it looks like rip-off.
I mean, the RT keyholders/SD figures were obviously based on the Banpresto
ones.
The SD Morphers are refined Tatkatoku Paro Paro (or whathever you call it).
And now, the action figures looks like Wonder Festival Valkyries carbon copies.
Not to mention the Masterpiece, which is the bastard child of a Takatoku and an
HCM.
And I kinda liked the denying of RT.com, "It's not the actual toy", in big red
letters :p
IMHO, the true RT curse is that HG and their affiliates are not able to create
something on their own, just rip-off and hack Macross stuff.

The leg bars aren't 100% Taka---but they're close. The upper and lower
surfaces have been thinned a bit---the round screw attachment area now protudes
past the flat upper and lower surfaces of the bar.
Hey---they even copied how the chest plate doesn't sit flush with the cockpit
in fighter mode---it's raised up a bit, just like a Taka.
I'm seriously wondering if they know what a VF-1 actually looks like, or if
they just assumed the Taka was utter perfection---without checking any line
drawings or such. 3rd possibility----they are intentionally copying the Taka
so as to sell it to collectors (this is my best guess, BTW).

I gotta partially agree with Cat here. Everyone seems to be quite forgiving
of Yamato especially considering all their quality control problems. Seems
that alot of folks are just judging the toy by the logo thats on the box.
I'll admit that the Toynami preview pics look like they left out alot to be
desired. However to judge a toy by its first solicitation pic is just plain
stupid(anyone who collects DC Direct figures knows what I mean).
Do you have Spider Jerusalem???

It looks cheesy, and I bet its construction is cheesy. Face the facts,
the original Valkyrie builds from the 80's were as good as it was going
to get (and they were pretty damned sweet).

Just because the legs detach, doesn't mean it doesn't transform just as well as
any other toy. Couple of hundred Gobots, Transformers, Sentai, Godaiken, etc
have removable parts----what's wrong with having Valks do it? If it gives a
more accurate shape, I'm all for it. I swear, only Macross fans (excluding me)
complain about removable parts. Every single transforming toy line ever has
many robots which transform with removing parts, or change shape ONLY by
removing and re-attaching parts.
As for quality---well, the Yamato VF-1's currently appear to be about the
highest-quality toy I've ever seen. Clear landing/navigation lights, awesomely
detailed landing gear, sequenced landing gear and landing gear bay doors,
unobtrusive missile mounts, etc.

I tell you it looks a helluva lot better than the Takatoku noses. Although I
do admit that it is bent a little oddly. It is the best I've seen in a toy
interpretation to date.
Hey...what's wrong with Starscream's nose? It looked fine to me. He's an
F-15 and he's got a head inside it for Godmar's sake.
-Jeremy
How so? I don't think it looks anywhere near as good, or as accurate.

It was made out of rubber, and never looked right.

I'm wondering that too. Only thing I can think of is that the original Takara
generic F-15 toys had plastic, more accurate noses (as well as wing root
LEX's), whereas the US-bound official Transformers™ had shortened, blunted,
rubber-tipped nose cones.
The fuselage screws are inside the front of the nose(that end piece then fits
inside). By doing it from the front, they elimated any screw hole bosses from
the side of the fuselage.
I put a profile picture of the Yamato next to a profile drawing of the VF-1,
and the nosecones/fuselage are almost identical. I'll ask if I can post it.

Here is tha pic I was referring to.

Bah..damned tease. On the bright side, at least Yamato can make a freakin'
Valkyrie look like a valkyrie. Here's me giving a nut if the legs are
removable, more power too them for exactness.
