Lea--The Soap Opera Digest article raises an interesting values question.

It says you spent several years taking care of Gerard while he was in
school. I read something elsewhere that suggested that you also paid his
way. Given that you had the resources to support two (or three?) people,
plus pay tuition, while not working full-time, it seems apparent that you
could have hired someone to cook and clean for Gerard while you continued to
work.

Why did you decide to provide the personal services yourself?

"A person who chooses to die or to risk death demonstrates that there are
values, principles, maxims, that are more valuable to him than is life
itself. In short, he places his immortal self above his mortal self."

But having a hired cook is different from having your family there for
support. Besides, I was still auditioning for parts, and could always
travel where there was work, which I did.

Do I understand you correctly, then, as saying that the time you spent in
Boston was time you wouldn't have been working anyway--under the heading of
that alternation between big paychecks and idle time you've mentioned?

Probably... the only thing I really worked on a lot was Mulan, and I had to
be in California to do it.
