Hallo Lea! When do you plan to do an album with Ogie Alcasid? He
announced it this morning at Unang Hirit that he's going to produce an
album or write a song for you. Sana Matuloy! ^_^

Here's a nice article about Ogie.

Ogie: I've been selfish

Updated 09:17pm (Mla time) Oct 07, 2004
By Marinel Cruz
Inquirer News Service

Editor's Note: Published on page A33 of the October 8, 2004 issue of the
Philippine Daily Inquirer

AWARD-WINNING singer-songwriter Ogie Alcasid admits that because he has been
selfish--a lot of the really good songs he made in the past did not become
big hits.

"It was only after other artists recorded their versions of my songs that
the songs became successful," Ogie said. "There were times when I felt I
could not let go of my songs. There are songs in my albums that I feel are
really good but are never heard because I've been too selfish."

He cited the hit song "Kailangan Kita" as an example. Gary Valenciano first
recorded the song, which became the theme of an Aga Muhlach-Claudine
Barretto hit movie from Star Cinema. Piolo Pascual released his version of
the song, helping pave the way for Piolo's crossover from acting to singing.

"I liked that song so much I wanted to keep it for myself," said Ogie. "But
I know someone else can own the song and it will be heard by many people."

Ogie also wrote "Bakit Ngayon Ka Lang," made popular by the group Freestyle.
His "Nandito Ako" also became a big hit when Mexican telenovela star Thalia
recorded her version in 1997.

Just recently, Smart released a TV commercial with Filipino-American singer
Jasmine Trias of "American Idol" fame singing "Kailangan Ko'y Ikaw," an Ogie
Alcasid composition originally sung by Regine Velasquez.

"Now 'Bakit Ngayon Ka Lang' isn't mine," Ogie pointed out. "'Nandito Ako' is
Thalia's. The songs I wrote for Regine are not mine, they're hers. I also
love the songs I'm making for Sarah [Geronimo], but I know she can sing them
better than I."

Despite being one of the most in-demand songwriters in the country today,
Ogie said he still feels insecure. "In a certain way, I envy singers like
Christian [Bautista] and Erik [Santos] because they are identified as
singers. They became famous after winning singing contests, which is
something I've never experienced.

"I want to be like them again," he added. "I'm a singer. I want to sing
again. I feel as if people have forgotten that I'm a singer more than a
songwriter. Singing is my first love."

To reinforce his position as one of the country's top singers, Ogie will
perform in a two-night concert titled "I Am a Singer" at the Music Museum
tonight and tomorrow at 8:30 p.m. Archie Castillo is the show's musical
director.

To perform with Ogie are Sheryn Regis tonight, Sarah Geronimo tomorrow, and
Nyoy Volante with Mannos on both nights.

The show has the "widest repertoire I could think of," said Ogie. This
includes his favorite Barry Manilow and Josh Groban songs, some Motown which
he will sing with Nyoy and Mannos, and a medley by Filipino songwriters who
influenced Ogie while he was growing up.

Ogie and Sarah will do a duet of "If Only," the latest single which Ogie
wrote for Sarah's new album.

"I don't think I've had a huge hit that I wrote myself," said Ogie. "My hits
have always been from other writers. That's why, my next album will feature
not the songs I wrote but the works of some of the most respected
songwriters in the country."

The album, with Wency Cornejo's "Magmula Ngayon" as the carrier single, will
also contain songs by Archie Castillo ("Mahal Kita"), Edwin Marollano
("Binibining Pilipinas"), Socorro de Castro ("Hello"), Arnold Reyes
("Hanggan Saan, Hanggang Kailan"), Viktoria ("Tanging Pag-ibig") and Agatha
("'Di ba Sabi Mo").

But while he is concentrating on his singing career, Ogie said he would
still write songs for other singers. He is now working on Jaya and Karylle's
next albums.

"You have to be unselfish," he said. "That's the life of a songwriter.
Unlike with news articles, you can't put your name at the end of every song
you make just so people would know you made them."

Yeah, I saw that also in Unang Hirit when I was waiting for Jasmine Trias
news. I remember someone (OK, I checked, it was Ricky) asked Lea if Ogie
will write a song for Lea someday. And she said that they actually already
asked him to do so. =) So in Unang Hirit, he mentioned that his song was
already sung by Jasmine, which is Kailangan Ko'y Ikaw. Then he mentioned
that with Lea, it's happening soon, too. =) YAAAYYY!

Gerard's already asked him, so now all we can do is wait.

Ogie was referring to writing Lea a song, so of course, it will be original.

YAY!

Yeah, but what normally happens is that in a 10-track album, they
usually put 2 to 3 revival songs.

May or may not happen. :) You don't know with these creative people nowadays.

Yeah, you have a point. Sometimes, it really is boring to listen to
new tunes, especially in one seating. Hmmm, I learn new things
everyday. Thanks.

I'm sure there'll be at least one familiar song in there. Who
knows... "Two Words" may just be in Lea's next album.

Yup! Before, Lea had said that they had something special planned for Two
Words... something like that. And so we were guessing that maybe it'll be
part of that all-orig OPM album that they're planning to release in the
future.

Not saying "yup!" that it will be in Lea's next album, hehe! Just reread my
post, and it seemed like I was confirming that it would be. Hahaha! Sorry
for any confusion. Just saying that we were guessing that here before. =)

I'll try to look for the thread...

Not quite what I was looking for... but here's something Lea had said:

> I guess the question would be: Will "Two Words" be included in the SFH
> concert cd release for commercial distribution for everyone out there to
> listen to?

No, it won't. Gerard is adamant about its release... he wants it released
only when the studio version is recorded (which should be sometime this
year).
