Like she has always done so in the past, our very own international
actress Lea Salonga quietly sneaked in the country last week for a
brief vacation together with her fiance, Robert Chien, and just as
likely, will quietly slip out of the country end of this week to go
back to Los Angeles, California, where she is currently based.

The couple went home to have a breather (especially after the passing
of Rob's mother very recently, our condolences Rob!) from all the
preparations they have been doing back in Los Angeles for their
January 10, 2004 wedding. They are here too for a brief official
business that also include preparations for a commercial, and the fine
tuning of the details of a concert that she will be doing in
September, also here in the Philippines.

Yes, Lea will hold a two-night concert billed "Bayo Presents Lea
Salonga: Songs From Home," on Sept. 12 and 13 at the PICC Plenary Hall
once again to give way to the clamor of her followers here. Gerard
Salonga will be her musical director while Bobby Garcia will do the
stage direction.

Lea will be singing mostly OPM songs, which will run consistent with
the thrust of Bayo's "Filipino and Proud" campaign. Bayo is mounting
this two-night musical event specifically to promote its very
successful "Filipino and Proud" battlecry. "This will be our major
event for the year and we're very happy that Lea's schedule permitted
this occasion to happen," Ferdie Agustin of Bayo told us.

The initial lineup of guests to join Lea in the concert are
Filipino-American singer and actor Paolo Montalban and our very own
most in-demand singer-songwriter Ogie Alcasid.

It's nice to hear good news like this, having Lea home to give us
another musical treat before she finally ties the knot with Rob early
next year.

Is this affordable for the average filipino? or is it only for the Tin-Tin
"Sosi" crowd?

Hi Manang Lea,

Will this concert also be recorded as a live album cd/vcd/dvd like your past
concerts? It'd be great to hear you do an all OPM album especially with Paolo
Montalban and Ogie Alcasid joining you.

Thanks very much!

Hopefully both will join me...it's going to be a lot of fun.

If this would be recorded, will it be 'the' much awaited tagalog album
or will you do a special album for that?

Knowing ABS-CBN, they'll milk everything from it! Casettes,CD's,
VCD's, DVD's,and a two-part televised run with tons of commercials!

They'll be two separate albums. We're planning an all-original Pinoy
album for next year, I think.

Sounds great, Manang. I wish I could see the show coz I loooove OPM. I
hope the list of guest appearances will pull through, and thanks very
much for the info, too, even though you missed my question, but that's
ok. It's all good.

Yeah...thanks, Scooby. Thanks. See I told you I only ask questions
related to video games. That's all I'm ever interested in. Lea and
video games. lol But thanks for reposting the question, though, and
thank you, Manang for answering it.

In the meantime, here's another one. Manang, what game are you
currently playing now and on which console? My brother and I are
hooked on Hunter: The Reckoning on Nintendo Gamecube. It's scary to
play especially at night coz of all the zombies. yiiiii!

Thanks!

I play on all three platforms, but my current favorite is the
Gamecube. I finished Luigi's Mansion and Starfox Adventures, and have
started Super Mario Sunshine. Hunter sounds interesting too...maybe
that will be next.

I know more adults that play video games than kids. I'm one of them.
Besides didn't you read, video games make you smarter! By the way,
Lea, did you get the gameboy video game player for your gamecube?

lol yeah. I'm 22 but I have a playstation. I've got Crash Bash

Will you be singing a new OPM song as in composed and arranged for you?

Those adventure games are so cool, especially because there is really no
violence and you have to use your noggin. Luigi's voice cracks me up!
Do you think that vaccuum of his has enough room to suck up a few trolls?

Lea,

How long do you plan to stay in the Philippines in September? Will Rob
be going with you, as well? What do you miss about living in the
Philippines?

Danke.

I plan to be home until just after the concerts are done. Rob will be
staying in LA, as he has to get back to work. As for what I miss about
living in the Philippines, it's the people from home that I miss -- my
family and friends mostly.

I'm curious. Are you from the Philippines, Claude? Ever been there? Heard a
lot of stories from those who have lived there? Made a serious academic
study of Philippine culture and economics, or even politics? (Political and
legal history of the Philippines, from what little I know of it, strikes me
as something that could be very interesting to study.)

There is certainly evidence, when you compare the number of native-born
Filipinos living in the United States to the number of native-born Americans
living in the Philippines, to support the proposition that it's better to be
here than there--but that's not such strong evidence when you note the
number of Filipinos (and especially Filipinas) working in the Arab states
under conditions approaching slavery. Certainly the fact that people who are
poor and lack opportunity in one country choose to go somewhere else where
they can make more money (be it here or the Gulf) says little about which
country would be preferable for a person who could have a middle-class or
wealthy life in either.

I'm not posting this to criticize my own country; we Americans have a great
deal of which to be proud. And one thing of which we can be proud is the
number (and merit, and range of choices) of people from elsewhere who've
chosen to become Americans, or to spend part of their lives here.

But having never lived in the Philippines or even set foot there, I would
not think it appropriate for me to pass such an extreme judgment as to say
that life is "a million times better" here than there.

None yet...Gerard and his staff are lining up songs that defined the eras.
So, we have to be careful with what songs are included in the line-up. Even
though a song was popular, it might not have defined the time.

Filipinos dream big to live a great life but when they get there, they
tend to go back to the place where they come from. It is better to
share you glory and the dollars you've earned with your family and
friends here in the Philippines despite its meager standard of living
or lifestyle. As Gary Valenciano says "ano mang layo ang narating,
Singapore, Australia, Europe o America, babalik at babalik ka rin..."

quite true lex. even if filipinos are already made in some foreign
country, they tend to come back to their mother land. why? 'coz
there's no place in the world like the philippines.

i've been there for a week two weeks ago, and i say that the same old
decrepit buildings, the smog, the floods, the TRAFFIC are still there,
yet i yearn to come back again.

Ms. Lea,

First of all, best wishes to you and Robert Chien on your wedding
day and forevermore. May God bless you with an everlasting love and
wonderful, talented kids.
Also, I'm so excited to tell you that I already bought a ticket to
your September concert and will still be buying another one for my
friend maybe next week. I would just like to ask some questions
regarding your concert and perhaps you might want to consider any of
my requests as well if you & Gerard don't mind:
1.) Will Ogie Alcasid compose a new song for you and if yes, will
it be included in the concert?
2.) Here are some of my requests: your duet version with Ogie of
his Bakit Ngayon Ka Lang, Nandito Ako or Mahal Kita, Walang Iba; your
duet version with Ariel Rivera of his Minsan Lang Kitang Iibigin; your
version of current/recent OPM hit songs such as Kahit Isang
Saglit(Martin), Tila(Lani Misalucha), Kung Ako Na Lang Sana(Bituin
Escalante), etc.; your version of classic OPM hits like Pagdating Ng
Panahon(Aiza Seguerra), Forevermore(Side A), Paano(Dulce), Kahit
Kailan(Southborder) Everyday(Agot Isidro), Sa Puso Ko, Iingatan
Ka(Carol Banawa),etc.; your remake version of your own hit songs: If
Only, Only You(Octoarts album), Sa Ugoy ng Duyan, theme from Tropang
Bulilit among many others. Thank you very much for your kind
consideration.
3.) Will you be able to watch Ogie's October 10 concert at the
Araneta when you come back?
4.) Is there a possibility for Robert Chien to produce your
concerts in the future?

Thank you very much again and always for your precious time and
very valuable answers to all of my/our questions. May God bless you
more and more! We all love you so much! You're always the best! Also,
my belated congratulations to your awesome and unequalled FDS
performances and break a leg on the FDS tour.

Dunno if I've said this here, but before, I tried playing Resident Evil (or
one of those similar games) because I'd watch my brother play that. The
first (and only!) time I played it by myself, I had to play music on my CD

Yeah, sorta like you want more, but you're left hanging.
So, when's the sixth book coming out?

Ok, Mimi, you're worse than Tin here. Get a move on, girl or else I'll have to
tell who dies, too. ;)~

Didn't you just want to slap him hard again and again throughout the whole book
and make him listen to Hermione? Seems like she's the only one who had any
sense in the story. And that Cho Chang. waawaawaa! Big baby.

LOL!!

Well, I suggest taking it slowly because that's what I did all summer. I didn't
finish the book till this past Friday for fear of missing something if I rushed
through it. It's a great story, something to be enjoyed no matter what pace you
read it in.

okay, as part of the engagement party....we will read the final pages as
entertainment for the guests ;o) Seriously, that's good to know. I have
confidence that some day we will read all of them.

Actually, it's Eponine, though I don't think it's ever sufficiently
explained how a woman who died in France in 1832 turned up in an English
wizarding school more than a century and a half later.
