You're a wandered in the woods and you want to go to the GOOD TOWN, on the road
that you're walking on, it seperates to the left, and the right (one to the
GOOD TOWN, and one to the BAD TOWN) with a man at the corner. the GOOD TOWN
people always tells the truth, the BAD TOWN people lies...now you don't know
where this man is from, you don't know if he's from the GOOD TOWN or the BAD
TOWN...but you need to ask him for help..now, how would you ask him to be
directed to the GOOD TOWN. You can only ask him 1 question. If this man is from
the GOOD TOWN, he will tell you the truth, if he is from the BAD TOWN, he would
lie, and direct you otherwise.
Here's a second...
okay, I borrow 50 dollars from you, and 50 dollars from your friend Mark, so
that adds up to giving me 100 dollars...(this riddle is very VERY clear)...now,
I buy a sweater worth 97 dollars....(no tax, no extra fees)...so 100-97=3...so
i have 3 bucks left. now...to lessen my debt with you and your friend Mark, i
give you a dollar fifty (1.50 + 1.50 = 3)...that leaves me with nothing, and my
debt w/ you and Mark is now 48.50 each now. But if you add up 48.50 that I owe
you two, it would end up being 97 dollars...and if you include that 1.50 that I
paid you both, it would be equal to 101 dollars...now, I only borrowed 100
bucks, where the dollar come from?
Here's the last...
A man walking on the street points to another man and says, "Brothers and
sisters have I none, but that man's father is my father's son". Who did he
point to?
Have fun! Make sure you have the Tylenol in handy. Okay, take care and smile!
Much love..

Huh? 2(48.50) + 2(1.50) DOES = $100
How is (1.50 x 2) supposed to be equal 4??

Ooh, this is a classic.

His son.
my father's son = himself
that man's father = himself
therefore, "that man" is his son.

I was stuck on Rey's phone number brain teaser so I thought I'd try these ones. I
guess you could try asking something like, "Which way do you live?". If it's the
good guy, he'll show you the right way. If it's the bad guy, he'll show you the
oppposite way which is the GOOD TOWN.

I think I said it wrong, sorry...lemme re-phrase that...

owe you and skweeki, it's equal to 98 dollars...and since i gave you two a
dollar each, it adds up to 100 dollars right? BUT...i still have a dollar left
from the 3 that i gave you. tell me where that dollar came from.
But you don't know where he lives..

Alright... I know this is pitiful, but I thought of the answer to this
while I was trying to get to sleep. I had to get out of bed to write
down the answer before I forgot. ;-) The answer (or rather, the
question) is:
"Which road would take me to the town where you live?"
(It probably could be phrased better, but give me a break..it isn't
8:00 yet..)
If he's from GOOD TOWN, he'd tell you the correct way, and if he's
from BAD TOWN, he'd lie and point you the opposite way (towards GOOD
TOWN). Of course, he could be a troublemaker and point towards where
you came from, though..

Okiiaay.. This is a complicated one, but I haven't been reading
Marilyn von Saint's (spelling, spelling..I know) column for nothing!
The problem with this reasoning is that you're trying to compare two
different amounts. There's the money that you borrowed (then
spent/repaid/kept) and then there's the amount that's owed.
$100 borrowed = $50 borrowed from x + $50 borrowed from y
= $97 sweater + $1 paid to x + $1 paid to y + $1 kept
$100 owed = $49 owed to x + $1 paid to x + $49 owed to y + $1 paid
to x
You can't mix up those last two lines and try to make something equal
to $101, it just won't work. Of course, if you weren't cheap and had
paid both x and y back $1.50 instead of selfishly hanging onto that
last $1.00, we wouldn't be giving ourselves headaches over this! :p

That doesn't matter in this case.. If he's a "good" person, he'll
point you the right way - towards GOOD TOWN, and if he's "bad", he'll
point you the opposite way from where he lives (to GOOD TOWN as
well.) It's a win, win situation!
(Now, if you wanted to know where he was from, you would have to allow
us a second question!)

"A little bit of courage can go a long, long way...but watch out for

You don't know where the GOOD TOWN is located, so you don't know if he pointed
you the right way, and you don't know if he's from the GOOD TOWN, so you don't
know if he's telling you the truth. Get it??? *grumbling*...besides, if it were
to be 2 questions, it'd be a sinch. BUT it's not...so keep suffering fellas. =)
You don't know where he lives, and you don't know which way is which to each
town. So how would you know if he's telling the truth? You can't go check each
town and conclude that each town is either bad or good.
>If he's from GOOD TOWN, he'd tell you the correct way, and if he's
>from BAD TOWN, he'd lie and point you the opposite way (towards GOOD

You don't know where he's from...so he could point you either way. If he's from
the GOOD TOWN, he'll point you there, but you don't know that he's from the
GOOD TOWN or BAD...if he's from the BAD...well...
Okay, maybe this was a really bad riddle lol...everyone's giving the same
answers...
Albert
So the person will always point to the GOOD TOWN!
Albert
That's because we're all right! <g>
Manda :)
But how did you get that figure of $101? You added the money you owe
($98), the measly amount that you paid back ($2), and the $1 you still
have. You're still adding money together that is from different time
zones.
Let's take it one step at a time and watch where all of the $100 is at
each point:
1. You borrow $50 from Fred and $50 from Jimbob. You now have $100
and you owe $50 to Fred and $50 to Jimbob.
2. You buy that 2-die-4 sweater with $97 of that $100. Now you have
$3, the lucky shopkeeper has $97, and you still owe Fred and Jimbob a
total of $100. Wait, that is a total of $200 - have we made a trip to
the money factory? No, of course not. The owed money isn't real money
until you pay it back. It is just potential money.
3. Your conscious hits you so you give Fred and Jimbob each $1 of the
$50 that you owe each of them so they can go out and buy Lea some Top
Ramen for her opening night. Now, where is that original $100? Well,
you have $1 of it, Fred has $1 of it, and Jimbob has $1 of it. The
shopkeeper still has the lion's share of it, though - $97. There's
your total of $100.
But where is the $100 that you originally owed Fred and Jimbob? Well,
$98 of it is still there, still owed. The other $2 have been
converted into real money and flown away to the noodle shop. Any
clearer?
This will probably just end up confusing everybody more, but I had to
try..
Manda
..who has never seen the day where she would spend $97 on a sweater..
Then you'd have to allow us more than one question! Actually, I don't
know if there's a way of figuring it out that way.. I guess you could
point to a rock and say "Is that a tree?" If he said yes, then you'd
know he was from BAD TOWN. But if he was from BAD TOWN (the town so
bad, it has to be in all caps!) you would never know that you could
trust his answers.
If the person had said no, then you could never find out if the person
was from GOOD TOWN or not. You could have kept asking him questions
that you knew the answer to, but if he kept answering them correctly,
how are you to know that he isn't just a BAD TOWN person acting on
good behavior that day? Now, if you made some specification (such as
a BAD TOWN person never lies more than three times in five questions),
we might be able to get somewhere... but then again, most likely not!
Manda

sanity!
