After waiting forever to find Homeland at my local brick 'n' mortar, I
finally bought it off iTunes this weekend. My initial thoughts:
My 2nd favorite album, and 2nd most accessible, since Strange Angels.
Unlike Bright Red, which was really Difficult Music (pun intended) for
me, I could enjoy all of this album.
"Only an Expert" seems to be taking an interesting metamorphosis.
From the classic Laurie-esque of the PBS premiere of the piece (still
my favorite), to the thrash-rock version she did live in Dallas on
tour to the techno-funk version on the album. All are good, though.
However, why change "homelessness" to "a shelter?" The prior flowed
much better!
I love the instrumental "Flow." It's no "For a large and changing
room," but it's good.
I was disappointed "The Lost Art of Conversation" was not the duet
version with Lou. In concert, her singing perfectly on-key and on-
beat with him going anywhere but on-key, anywhere but on-beat was the
perfect metaphor for the male/female disconnect of heterosexual
relationships the song is about. Had me leaning so far out of my seat
I nearly fell out!!!
The bonus track version of "Only an Expert." WTF? I hope that was a
joke! Had me laughing at it, anyway!!
Other opinions!
