It's very well done. Your depictions of Lara are always dynamic,
especially when you show her to us from some one else's point of view
and this doesn't disappoint.

And McG.'s pictures over in alt.binaries.lara.croft are a nice
complement to the story.

Ha! Here I was thinking GS was the only one looking at them! Glad you
liked them Andy. Happy Holidays! :-)

Got one little question for you folks: Do you feel that my characterization
of Lara looks like Lara? This is something that matters to me. I got the
basics, hair, eye color, female, general build. But do you people think
this is a GOOD "Lara"? :-\
McG.
I can't see a thing wrong with being 'fanish' of Lara Croft! And thanks
for the feedback on my interpretations of Lara. And thank you too for all
the writing about her! It has inspired me!

I dunno, McG. Google Groups doesn't allow for binary pics. Fire off
an email to me and I'll let ya know.
Hi, I am back out of deep, deep lurk (we're talking years here!) because my
ISP's news service now carried my TR groups again. I've been following via
Googlegroups, but it's a pain in the butt to post from there, so I normally
don't bother. (Big wave to everyone - even though you probably don't even
know who I am/remember me!)
Just wanted to say I enjoyed your story, Gordian. I've always wondered if
your writing is merely a hobby, or do you make a living out of it? (Nosey,
I know!)

G-Day Izzy. Welcome back.

Well look who's here! HIYA IZZY! Great to see you again! I missed seeing
this post until just now, in Win 7 and Live Mail as the news reader! LOL!
Hope y'all are doing fine and well, had a great Christmas and having a Happy
New Year!
McG. :-)
Damn Micro$oft anyways eh? ;)

For those of us who have read all these stories, the games characters take
on a richer personality. I feel it enhances my enjoyment of the games.
And I especially like the flavor you've given old Winston in this story!
Now I have a new respect for the old fart. He is still a MAN! I'd have
mentioned this much earlier, but got carried away with setting up new scenes
and forgot. Sorry! :-)
McG.
*I* remember you! Vaguely. ;)
Hope things are good with you. Nice to see you here again.

I'm still enjoying my TR playing although - don't shoot me - I've had to
resort to a gamepad because of Repetitive Strain Injury. Bothers my wrists
less. I enjoy some aspects of the newer games, but I mourn the fact that
it's much easier now. Less frustrating at the time (no more being stuck in
a cave for 3 weeks trying to work out what to do next) but less satisfying.
I miss the good ol' days of settting each other challenges (competitive,
moi?) on AGT.
Izzy
Sorry to hear about the RSI. My wife had surgery for that a little while back.
And, yeah, I just got through playing TR 1 again. Still seem to have that bug
in a later level that keeps me from getting all secrets! :(
But I know what you mean, I bought the first of the new TR series, on faith ...
It was just so dumbed down. Frustrating with its sloppy control system, too.
The older ones are just so more precise in marrying control response to visual
response. Of course, they're also more rigorous/demanding, but I think that is
what I miss the most about them.
If you don't mind war games, Far Cry (the original) has a number of features
that remind me of the game play of TR. The scenery is part of the challenge,
and there are climbing "cheats" too! Of course the puzzles are mostly limited
to who to kill and in what order. But, lord knows, the early TR games had their
share of killing.
And, of course, I think my favorite so far (maybe even above TR!) is Half-Life.
The (old) first one is fun, but 2 and up are wonderful. Very inventive game
play. Lots of little puzzles and mazes (of a sort) built right into the story
line. A lot of strange (clearly malevolent) creatures to kill. There is even
the occasional scenery "cheat" that I've found here and there, but it really
doesn't need them.
Anyway ... I don't think *great* game play is dead, just because they did
regrettable things to TR.
