I've been gone for a long time, anyone have any thought on the announced
'New' Tomb Raider? Read the Gameinformer article in this months issue,
and I have to admit, Crystal Dynamics is trying hard to kill off the
Lara Croft fan-dom. the new game sounds like a very bad TR fan
nightmare. Opinions anyone? McGrandpa, Pistol Whipped, Gordian Slash,
others?

I really don't know.We will have to wait and see.But it is up to us (the
fans) on how we want Lara to be perceived.

While I would like what you say to be the case, Crystal Dynamics has
indicated otherwise, in the current Gameinformer issue featuring the
'new' Lara on the cover, they indicate that Lara must be broken and
rebuilt to meet the desires of some new genre of player. She will be
vulnerable, show injuries, locked on targeting is to be removed, and
Lara is to know fear. Basically they plan to remake her in their new
image, heck they even gave her a breast reduction job. If you haven't
read the article, you might want to. Instead of a 3rd person adventure
game with all the hallmark things Tomb Raider has always had while Core
was the developer, the new game will be IMHO a horror survival genre
game. If I buy it, it will be as a collector, and only after it hits
the bargain bins.

I gotta agree with that interpretation.

Poor Lara, killed off by a lack of imagination, short attention spans and morbid
fascination.

What a way to go!
Ah, the foibles of being a pixelated life form.
