Hi Ben,
WE got home last night and glad to be back home again.
Did not purchase the tractor yet though I did see lots of reasonable machinery at a very competitive price. I was a little worried about the mechanical back up
I would receive.
Massive Canton Fair and a great experience to be there but I guess I'm too old to worry about trying to be entrepreneurial although I wished I would have gone there as a younger man.
Met fun people on the way just by acknowledging a smile here and there. Lots of
(friendly Landies) and now and then some sour puss Nordstrups and Company.
Singapore, Guangzhou, Bejing and Kuala Lumpur have the most modern transport, train and Bus which puts my own city Melbourne and also Sydney to shame.
Near the end of the Trip we had Dinner at the revolving Restaurant at the KL Tower and the food and ambiance were excellent and so was the company but somehow I F####cked up and my wife was upset with me . So here we are in this lovely revolving restaurant with the City lights of Kuala Lumpur blinking in the background and me and my wife blandly and miserably looking at each other bored out of our minds.
Out of the corner of my eyes I spotted a couple in love as they stood up photographing each other with the Silver Twin Towers building glistening in the background. The body language spelled it all out.
The boyfriend then made his move swiftly and held his girlfriend tightly in his arm and passionately mauled her with long kisses slowly bring the back of her head closer to his. I don't know who was tonguing who but boy it was nature at its peak. . Wonderful!!!!!!!!
In deep contrast to me and my wife being miserable because of some stupid
mis-understanding. What a waste of a night and they do happen, however I am glad to report that due to what we got out of our Landmarkian workshop experience all was forgotten the next day.
Life was again pleasant and we moved on.
We also danced with a Chinese group in the park opposite our Hotel on our arrival in Beijing. We had gone for a walk and heard this Western music in the darkness and saw this Chinese group enjoying themselves with some kind of Line
Dancing with steps and moves we were unfamiliar with. However due to attending recent Dance classes we plucked up the courage to join them and soon we made friends even though no one spoke each others language.
Funny how Dance is an International language of its own as we soon smiled and chatted amiably each not knowing what the other was saying with photographs to follow.
Much like in this group with the difference being that there were no Agendas in
the background and a spirit of friendship and goodwill was displayed openly.
The world has changed so much since my last Travels with Qantas, as we met loads of South Americans studying in Chinese Universities to learn the Language to then use it in their Import export Businesses.
There was a young American who had been in China for 10 years working as a Translator who was on vacation with his Dad who still lives in Florida. I asked him why China and what had motivated him to move there. It seems like he had a deep fascination for Chinese culture since High School and that had spurned him on to learn the language and to live there.
In my time growing up there was no way one would consider learning Chinese as a second language just too dammn hard or Japanese for that matter.
But many brighter and smarter young people today have seen the light that China for the moment is the future and opportunities for employment or business lie there and they are taking it in their stride prepared to do the hard yakker.
With the attitude that my generation grew up with I think if we were younger we would all be joining the un- employment lines pretty quickly if we did not toe the demands of the new global economic world that now confronts every Western country.
Hope you are well
Regards Bruno
