LIAM GALLAGHER PENS SONG WITH FORMER STONE ROSES GUITARIST
Song Appears On Debut Album From Seahorses

Former Stone Roses guitarist John Squire has teamed with his
pal Liam Gallagher on a song called "Do It Yourself," which is the
title track of the forthcoming debut album by the Seahorses, Squire's
new band. Squire co-wrote the track with Gallagher, who doesn't
perform or sing on the song, long before the Seahorses were even
officially a band.
Do It Yourself, due this summer on Geffen, the Roses' former
label, will be produced by Tony Visconti (David Bowie, Marc Bolan,
Badfinger) and engineered by Rob Jacobs (U2, Eagles). As previously
reported here, the Seahorses also include Chris Helme as lead singer,
Stuart Fletcher on bass, and Andy Watts on drums. The band is
currently in Los Angeles finishing up the album. No word yet on when
the Seahorses will hit the road.

NINE INCH NAILS BOOK COMING SOON

Nine Inch Nails fans will want to make room on their
bookshelves this summer. St. Martin's Press is releasing a biography
of the band, cleverly titled Nine Inch Nails, which delves into the
band's rise to fame and all of the cynicism and scandal along the way.
The tentative release date is July 10.
The Press' catalogue description of the book reads, "Since stealing
the original Lollapalooza tour in 1991 from their position at the
bottom of the bill, NIN has become the definition of the pop- techno-
ethno- ambient cacophony of today. In Reznor's desperate, combative
persona and disarrayed melodies, '90s music lovers have finally found
a band that not only appalls but continues to confound everyone but
their millions of fans."
Author Martin Huxley (Aerosmith, St. Martin's Press, 1995,
AC/DC, St. Martin's, 1996) scribed the history of Reznor, the
"improbable hero" and his metamorphosis from "outcast to dyspeptic sex
symbol." He also explores NIN's growing popularity while still
offending others with their combination of "goth rock and grunge."
Naturally, the book touches on Reznor's love life, including his
alleged relationship with Courtney Love.

GREEN DAY AND OTHERS PLAY FOR HUMAN RIGHTS

New and unreleased songs by Green Day, the Vandals, Bad
Brains, and other punk bands adorn the new compilation, Generations
One-A Punk Look at Human Rights, out on Miles Copeland's new label
Ark 21. This is the first in a three- CD series to benefit the new
non- profit organization called the Human Rights Action Center.
Compiled by 26- year old Jason Rothberg of Lion's Pride Records,
Generations One also features Pennywise, the John Doe Thing, and the
Red Aunts with X's Exene Cervenkova. Of particular note is a song and
video by the Electric Doghouse, featuring Joe Strummer of The Clash
and Rat Scabies of The Damned. Strummer wrote the tune, titled
"Generations," specifically for this project.
The Human Rights Action Center was founded by Jack Healey, who
served as Amnesty International's Executive Director from 1981-93, and
became well- known in the '80s for organizing star- studded tours for
the organization. The HRAC's first good deed was to launch a campaign
honoring The Declaration Of Human Rights, a document designed by
Eleanor Roosevelt and endorsed by the United Nations in 1948.
Strummer's song in particular dramatizes Roosevelt's role as the
Declaration's main architect. According to Healey, more than 150
million people have been killed in this century at the hands of
government.

STEVEN TYLER: KEEP YOUR SHIRT ON

Don't expect to see Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler shirtless
on any magazine covers anytime soon. People in his "camp" have 86'ed
any signs of skin by the aging rocker. Most recently, Tyler personally
wanted to grace the cover of Bikini magazine with porno queen Shane
(Aerosmith has a new album coming out, and Shane's working on a remake
of Debbie Does Dallas. Make sense? Uh, no.)
What Tyler proposed was to appear with no shirt and for Shane to be
donned in a skimpy bikini, and the two were to be painting each other
with body paint. However, once one of Tyler's "handlers" got wind of
this, the idea was nixed. The source says that the reason had
something to do with Tyler's sagging skin. Ouch.
Aerosmith's new album, Nine Lives, is due March 18 on Columbia.
The band is taking Kula Shaker on the road with them in May and June
for a European tour.

Gossip!

So, we've all heard that Billy Corgan has talked with the members of
Hole about executive producing Hole's new album, right? Right. Well,
the word we got is that Hole is tossing around lots of ideas regarding
the production of the album, but one concern that's popped up
regarding Billy getting involved, is, well, how shall we put it? The
"strong personality" factor. Our source says, "They know he's a
capable person, but, he does have a strong personality, so..." Sheryl
Crow was quite friendly with Jakob Dylan of the Wallflowers
backstage at a show recently, where they shared the bill. Could a new
romance be brewing? We'll see. I don't know, but wouldn't it be kinda
weird to be first dating Eric Clapton, and then Bob Dylan's
son?... A big fat DUH goes out to us. Forgot to mention earlier
that not only did Foo Fighting man Dave Grohl mess around in the
studio (uh, that would be musically messing around, not, you know...)
with David Bowie's guitarist Reeves Gabrels, but that Frank Black
and Bowie were in the studio too. We're on the edge of our seats...
