not only does this bloated clump of crap, whose name is tom grant, claim
that Kurt Cobain was murdered, but he actually claims that Courtney Love
was the one who had Kurt killed. so ludicrously outrageous and unfounded
is this pathetic claim, that unsolved mysterys in their expose didnt even
bother stating that this is tom grant's main thesis and the central focal
point of his investigations, though their story concentrated on him,
because they knew simply mentioning that Courtney was behind Kurt's death
would discredit them to no end. the whole thing is pretty much worthless
to consider- tom grant is a leeching, pathetic bum who has no life and
simply found a way of making money through this bullshit story and
unsolved mysterys will run anything that can possibly give them some kind
of ratings. end of discussion.
My assumption (from their conversations) is that "Unsolved Mysteries"
may have devoted an episode to a mysterious murder that took place several
years back. The murder was reported on the radio, but no evidence was
ever found.
People, am I correct? Did "Unsolved Mysteries" really devote an episode
to the Famous Murder Hoax? Or am I misunderstanding things?

This was Sluggo, calling from a station in Arizona. KROQ hired
Sluggo a few months afterward to do the evening drivetime slot.
Sluggo now works at the New York City Infinity station.

KROQ received over 400 phone calls from police departments all over
the country, asking for details, asking how to get in contact with the
purported confessing murderer, thinking it might be one of their own
unsolved murders. Imagine the reaction of the 400 families when their
small thread of hope of resolution of their loved one's murder turned out
to be a radio station hoax. Imagine what the newspapers and other
stations and victim's rights groups thought of it.
Burbank PD was not amused, and there was some talk of possible arrests
and charges, but I don't remember what the charges mught have been.
Grievous public nuisance? Fraudulent misuse of police resources? Being
total jerks?
Station management was ~very~ angry. Seriously angry, this time.
Not the kind of angry where K&B laughingly say, "We were late coming
down here to Fullerton because Mr Weatherby just chewed our asses for
an hour," but angry to the point of wanting to terminate with prejudice.
There was a bill of something like fifteen thousand dollars, but I'm not
sure if it was a fine or a reimbursement.
Kevin and Bean each had to perform some enormous number of hours
of community service. It took them almost two years to complete it all.
I think it was something like 1200 hours, but if anyone else knows the
correct figure, please let us know.
They also had to apologize on the air every thirty minutes for two or
three days, if I remember correctly. The apologies were complete with
confessions and admissions of bad judgement and tastelessness. I
remember hearing some of them, and it was excruciating to listen to.
I certainly wouldn't want to have been in their shoes. I'm sure K&B
wanted to die.

See above.

I'm not surprised. However, we can use this to advantage. If K&B ever
think about firing Tad for some mishap or other, we can remind them
of the virtue of forgivenness, perhaps with a tiny little mention of two
disc jockeys who still have their jobs despite having done something
far worse than Tad could ever be capable of.

Probably the fraudulent misuse of police resources. Since they did
community service, charges must have been filed, and I'd assume they
plead guilty or no contest.

They were actually suspended for a time. The only "apology" that I
remember hearing was one where they came in during their suspension
and apologized on the air. The tone of the apology was "It was a stupid
thing to do, we don't want to lose our jobs but we understand this could
happen...."

Actually, the MMM issue is more to the point. If Tad were fired, he
could hook up with MMM's lawyer and sue Kevin and Bean under the Americans
with Disabilities Act. (Insert preferred disability/ies here. __________)

Some self-promoting private dick claimed that Kurt Cobain was murdered.
He was drilled by K&B a couple of years ago on the show. Courtney's
lawyer's got K&B & KROQ to air a lengthy statement several times over a
few days dismissing the guy's claims. Tom Leykis had him as a guest and
had to read the same statement.
A couple of weeks ago UNSOLVED MYSTERIES aired a segment on the private
dick and his claims. Robbing a grave for sweeps ratings.
I think that even Kevin & Bean would agree that it was a joke that went
A Little Too Far. Remember that as taxpayers, we ultimately paid for
the time the police wasted pursuing the case. (That is why filing a
false arrest report is illegal.)
Nope, You have got it exactly correct. It was just a hoax that Kevin and Bean
were doing for ratings and it went way to far. They feel really bad about it
and they paid the price.
Kevin and Bean made a deal with the DA and BPD to do a butt-load of
community service and fines and really can't talk about it much more...
That was seriously about 7 years ago... why all the discussion?
