I have been listening to Ray's new Kinks' Choral CD and I would say it
is pretty good. The use of the chorus seems to lend importance to the
songs, and this seems appropriate to such classics such as Days,
Waterloo Sunset and Celluloid Heroes. However, it is a fine line
between importance and pretentiousness, which I think was evident from
the choral version of See my Friends. All in all though, an
interesting reworking of some Kinks' classics.

Okay, Ray's done the choral Kinks, the unplugged Kinks (Storyteller),
what's next? Jazz Kinks? Rap Kinks? Maybe he'll re-record the entire
Muswell Hillbillies album with a group of Nashville cats.

How about Acapella Kinks? Waterloo Sunset would sound nice this way - or
Wonderboy,

I haven't heard the Choral CD. I'm just too cheap to buy it for
myself. Maybe Santa will take care of that.

I do give Ray credit for coming up with something new. Along with the
"Come Dancing" stage play, he's been in quite a creative phase lately.

I got it the other day, and it's growing on me. I like it. I'd rather Dave
and Ray kiss and make up, but if not, this is a close second.

Kinks choral cd with only one Kink on it? I hear Dave is putting
together his own Kinks band. Maybe he can do the instrumental versions.

To me, The Kinks are Ray Davies, and Ray Davies is The Kinks.

And Dave Davies was just the guitarist.

Ray has put out, aside from this Choral CD, 2 CDs in the past few years,
and they rank right up there with anything the Kinks did. And if Dave
Davies has put out a solo album, I've never heard it. But when I heard him
in person, at Slim's in SF about 8-10 years ago, he basically did
the songs of his brother.

It's sad to me that Dave can't drop the bitterness towards his own
brother.

I'd love to see The Kinks re-form. But until then, I'm pleased with what I
have in Ray Davies.

Troll? Or should I bother to argue with the guy? Ron, what do you
think?

Of course, this place is so quiet these days, even a troll might be a
welcome addition to our little party.

What are you talking about? I'm not a troll; I'm a fan of the Kinks.

You probably don't remember me, but before I went in London in 1996, I was
asking all sorts of questions about visiting Kinks' related venues in
London. I did manage to see a Sunset from Waterloo Bridge when I was
there?

Does that sound like a troll to you?

If so, you can go back a few years before that to see me ranting/raving
about X-Ray.

In any case, I'm not here to argue but to talk about one of my favorite
bands, one I've loved since 1965 or so. Not to be accused of being a troll
because I happen to love the music of Ray Davies.

Sheesh.

Be honest, Joe, you're a Ray Davies fan, not a Kinks fan. Dave has
released many solo cd's - the most notable being AFL1-3603, Glamour,
Chosen People, Bug and Fractured Mindz. He contributed many great songs
to the Kinks catalog - Look Through Any Doorway, Close to the Wire, It's
Alright, Perfect Strangers, Strangers, You Don't Know My Name, Mindless
Child of Motherhood, to name a few. Not just the Kinks guitarist, but
even if all he had done was play guitar, what a contribution to the
band. His work on You Really Got Me and All Day of the Night was
pioneering. I have Ray's solo cd's and enjoyed them very much, but if I
want to hear Kinks music, I'll listen to the Kinks do them.

Well, let's all agree that we'd like to see the Brothers Davies kiss and
make up and put out some new Kinks records.

In the meanwhile, you're missing a good album.

That said, I just recently re-purchased Muswell Hillbillies. Does that put
me in the troll category too?

It sure is.

Until about 2 weeks ago, I've been using a 25 year old computer to access
the net, so had never seen YouTube before. The other night, I went there
and entered Waterloo Sunset as a search term, and was bowled away by what
I saw. There must have been 15 or 20 different versions, and I watched all
of them.

Lots of Klassic Kinks online, much to my satisfaction.

And I did watch some Dave Davies clips, includig a great Death of a Clown.
