This past Wednesday, PBS aired _Weirdly Cool_, a TV special
starring the Firesign Theatre.

While I was out tonight, I picked up a book of interviews
with the Monty Python troupe.

When I came home, they were running an old _Saturday Night
Live_ show with Paul Simon and George Harrison.

So maybe this 1970's nostalgia isn't such a bad thing, ya
know?

(Oh, by the way, if you're ever down at 2nd and south, don't
bother eating at Nola. Their steak-and-Jack-Daniels sauce
sucks.)

I used to like that place.

Hey, do people like Warmdaddy's??

What is up with that guy who runs that place? He's had like four
different places and moved and reopened five different times since he
lost his original lease down on South St., and it keeps closing...

The Video Library has been there the whole time as well; it used to share
the building with those places.

Anyways, yeah, I miss them too, or I would if I ever got that far west
anymore.

The only thing is that it wasn't a 'decent ice cream parlor.' It was a
frozen yogurt place, which was OK for what it was, but was no ice cream
parlor.

Speaking of ice cream, I'm sure you'll all be happy to know that
Bassett's has moved on from the pumpkin ice cream they have at
thanksgiving, to the egg nog and peppermint stick that they have at the
holidays.... aw yeah.

This does not make me happy--pumpkin should be a year-round flavor.

actually, Jas, it was a Hillary's first. Then Hillary's moved into the
3401 Food Court (now the Moravian Cafes) and then it was vacant for a
while and then TCBY moved in.

Heck, I remember, before Boccie, when there was Entrees On Trays (the
first restauarnt that was there).

Heck, I used to play in the Warehouse before all that stuff even got
built and opened.

Damn, I've been in West Philly a looooooong time!

It gets worse: I'm no geezer, but had Adam not pointed this out, it would

That's probably not as old school as Steve's, back when the CVS building

That's OK though, I know my place. I only started hanging around
Penn/West Philadelphia in 1987 when my sister started here, and didn't
spend a lot of time down here until I started in 1989. So I'm pretty

This is a fun article (it starts slow but picks up.) Doubly fun because
given that it was written in 1997, it still thinks there's a Le Bus on
Sansom St, etc.

Stop it ya geezer, that was only like 10 years ago.

OK so I have to say that while I'll happily participate in these old
geezer memory threads, there are only a few things that I really miss or
care about from them days. Here are the top two:

1. Discovery Discs, a truly wonderful CD store where you could listen to
everything before you bought and pick up some overpriced guitar strings
without having to go all the way downtown

2. Martys, which I've ranted and raved about many times on .talk.
