Liberal democRATs face big trouble!

Senate Republicans are in a position to make gains in 2004 because of a
combination of vulnerable Democratic seats and likely retirements, according
to congressional election analysts.
While other political variables, including a weakened economy and a
decline in President Bush's popularity, could influence the outcome of next
year's Senate races, analysts say Republicans are favored to strengthen
their hold on the Senate, which they control 51-48, with one
Democratic-leaning independent.
"At this point in the cycle, we believe the Republicans are positioned
to make Senate gains, most likely in the range of one to three seats. But
that could change as retirement decisions are made, and as new economic
numbers come in," election analyst Stuart Rothenberg said in his latest
newsletter, the Rothenberg Political Report.
One advantage for Republicans is that the Democrats have more seats to
defend this year - 19 seats compared with 15 for Republicans - and most of
the states where these elections will take place are friendlier to
Republicans than Democrats.
"Only three of the 15 states with GOP senators up for re-election in '04
were won by Democrat Al Gore in 2000 - Illinois, Iowa and Pennsylvania," Mr.
Rothenberg said. "In contrast, nine of the 19 states with Democratic
senators up for re-election were carried by Gore, nine went for Bush and
[Florida] was a virtual tie.
"This gives the Republicans an advantage, as long as Bush remains
popular. And a Democratic nominee who is associated with the left could add
to Democratic Senate problems in those more Republican and conservative
states," he said.
Other independent Senate election analysts agree with Mr. Rothenberg's
overall assessment. "The target list is bigger and friendlier for
Republicans. The Democratic target list is a lot smaller," said Jennifer
Duffy, who analyzes Senate races for the Cook Political Report.
The Democrats' biggest potential problem is that several incumbents who
may not seek re-election are from more conservative states that have become
increasingly Republican. That could give the Republican Party its best
chance in years to pick up several open seats.
Democrat Zell Miller of Georgia, one of his party's most conservative
legislators, has decided to call it quits after one term, making his seat
the Republicans' best bet for a pickup in a state where the Democrats have
gone into a steep decline. They lost a Senate race, the governorship and
some major state legislative contests last year.
Several Republicans are running for the seat, including Reps. Johnny
Isakson and Mac Collins. Herman Cain, the chief executive officer of
Godfather's Pizza, also is running. A number of Democrats also are thinking
about entering the race. Among them are state Attorney General Thurbert
Baker and freshman Rep. Jim Marshall.
Next on the Democrats' most-vulnerable list is Sen. John Edwards of
North Carolina, who has spent most of his first term running for the
Democratic presidential nomination.
Mr. Edwards, who remains in the low single digits in virtually all of
the party primary polls, has not said whether he will seek a second term if
he abandons his White House bid. But his home state polls suggest that he is
in trouble there. A Raleigh News & Observer survey in May found that 32
percent said he deserved re-election, 32 percent said they would consider
another candidate and 35 percent said they would vote to replace him.
Democrats in the state say the senator is under pressure to make a
decision about a second term and that he is expected to decide around Labor
Day.
"I don't think he'll run," Miss Duffy said.
Rep. Richard M. Burr, the likely Republican nominee, has raised more
than $2 million for the race. Several Democrats have expressed interest in
running, including former White House Chief of Staff Erskine Bowles, who
lost last year's Senate race to Elizabeth Dole.
Seven-term Sen. Ernest F. Hollings, South Carolina Democrat, is likely
to announce his retirement, opening up a big opportunity in this strongly
Republican state. At 81, he has been sending signals that his wife does not
want him to run and he has recently given the Democratic state chairman the
green light to look for other candidates.
Democrats have a longer list of names of those who are not interested in
running for Mr. Hollings' seat than those who are, election analysts say. On
the Republican side, Rep. Jim DeMint has been running for months.
"Without Hollings in the race, I think it is enormously hard for the
Democrats to hold onto the seat," Miss Duffy said.
Also on the Republicans' retirement watch is Sen. Bob Graham of Florida,
whose late entry into the Democratic presidential race has failed to stir
much interest. He has given no clue as to whether he will run for a fourth
term if he drops out of the primary contests. Mr. Graham underwent extensive
heart surgery earlier this year, and some party advisers said they think he
will decide to call it quits.
With Republicans controlling the governorship and 17 of 25 congressional
seats, Florida is one of the party's strongest states. Republican Rep. Mark
Foley is the front-runner for the nomination, but several Democratic
candidates also have indicated their interest if Mr. Graham steps down.
Thus far, Illinois Sen. Peter G. Fitzgerald is the only Republican who
has announced that he will not run again, handing the Democrats their best
opportunity to pick up a Republican seat. Republicans' attempts to recruit
former Gov. Jim Edgar have failed, and eight Democrats are seeking the seat,
including millionaire investment banker Blair Hull and trial lawyer John
Simmons, who say they are willing to fully finance their races from their
personal fortunes.
Sen. Lisa Murkowski, Alaska Republican, also is in jeopardy. She was
appointed by her father, Gov. Frank H. Murkowski, to fill his Senate
vacancy, and that decision sparked Democratic cries of nepotism that could
hurt her. Former Alaska Gov. Tony Knowles, a Democrat, is close to
announcing his candidacy for the Senate seat.

trolling...especially since WindsorSS slammed me as a veteran with his Agent
Orange remark. Also, there's WindsorSS's remark calling me "Gore boy."
I haven't discussed my politics since arriving here...where does this "Gore
boy" come from? I think we got us a growing ring of trolls. Interesting,
since Credit Card and Identity Theft operations often run the same way...as

Tactics -- very similar. Lies, sticking up for one another, confusion,

Little background info. Sgt Yuck argued with Da Bear and his alter ego
Kersplosh in the alt.fan.j-garofalo newsgroup about 3 months ago. They
searched every post he ever made and ran the poor guy off of usenet. Then
every person they have argued with since have been designated as really
being Sgt Yuck. That was when I was called in. I proved to them/him that
everyone was posting from different states and computers(ip addresses in
headers)with different newsreaders and newsservers and that the only 2
people in the entire group that posted from the same area were Da Bear and
Kersplosh. Da Bear then disappeared for about a week until I stopped
posting. He came back claiming he had a heart attack and accused several
more people of being SGT YUCK. He proved he was Kersplosh whereas he makes
the same mistakes in reading headers and they both reference the same 1000
hours of research(stalking) he had done on google.com . He also claims to
live in Van Nuys when his server is in San Ramon(near San Fran) which is a
long distance call from Van Nuys(near L.A.), he must be rich to call long
distance to access the internet. Da Bear is a completely insane lunatic, my
advice is to killfile him. He has totally ruined AFJG and if you reply to
any of his posts, expect him to do a complete google.com author search on
every post you have ever made. Ask Ralph Snart, he posted private
information about his kids, work, dog and life. The loon needs to be locked
up.
Oh and why does Da Bear think that Ralph Snart is connected with Sgt Yuck?
Sgt Yuck has something to do with a comic strip of some kind called Ralph

It all began a hundred thousand years ago on a ledge in front of a

idea.
Things didn't change much for thousands of years until the advent
of projectile weapons. This was first symbolized by the David and
Goliath story in the Bible, where the big strong brute was laid
flat by the small but smarter boy. Once brute strength was no
longer the controlling factor in social interaction, liberal ideas
slowly gained a foothold in human culture, and civilization began.
Throughout human history, the price for advocating tolerance and
progressive change has been paid in threats, beatings,
excommunication, incarceration, torture, murder, assassination, and
execution. Countless liberals have paid the ultimate price for
their humanity. Though Jesus Christ is the most famous, names in
recent history that come to mind are Gandhi, Martin Luther King
Jr., John Lennon, and Robert Kennedy.
Today there are many conservatives - individuals, groups, and
nations - who use threats and violence to silence the voices of
reason, tolerance, and progress. Here in America it is seen in
racists and homophobes beating blacks and gays, sometimes to death,
not for money or out of anger generated by interactive cause, but
because of religious or racial intolerance and secular bigotry.
Alan Berg on talk radio was a strong voice against a conservative
organization called the Aryan Nation. For thus exercising his
freedom of speech, he was shot dead while walking his dog in front
of his house.
David Rice is a man on death row in Washington State who has no
remorse whatsoever for entering the home of a family of four and
carving out their living hearts only because he heard they were
"liberals." He got their names from a Democratic Party membership
list.
Right-wingers Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nichols killed 168 men,
women, and children as an act of protest. What liberals have ever
committed such an abominable atrocity?
The most abominable atrocity in several decades is the 9/11
terrorist attacks in which thousands of innocent civilians were
murdered. The alleged perpetrators, Osama Bin Laden and the al
Qaeda-Taliban terrorists, epitomize the right-wing religious
fundamentalist mentality.
Some believe that the 9/11 attacks were deliberately allowed to happen,
exacerbated, or even perpetrated by radical right-wing elements within
our own government to further their fascistic agenda. Two buildings
were hit by planes, but THREE collapsed. The evidence that the three
collapsed buildings were brought down with demolition explosives put in
place BEFORE the attacks is very strong.
Arguing that such horrendous crimes are not political in nature or

Who nailed who to a cross?
Who were the Loyalists to the totalitarian monarchy of King George?
Who started our Civil War to defend slavery?
Who fought to keep women as property, and now fights their
sovereignty over their own bodies in the freedom to choose
abortion?
Who fought against child labor statutes?
Who fought against the concept of free public education?
Who fought against the right of women to vote?
Who fought against anti-trust and anti-monopoly legislation?
Who fought against workers organizing?
Who fought against government controls on manufacturers of cars
"unsafe at any speed?"
Who killed several thousand innocent civilians in the 9/11
terrorist attacks?
Who started WW2, murdered 13 million and caused the death of 40
million more?
Who defended Jim Crow for a hundred years?
Who fought against voting rights, civil rights, social security,
health care for the elderly, and minimum wages?
Who fights against environmental protection statutes?
Who opposes equal rights for gays and other free-lifestyle
minorities?
Who cruelly opposes physician-assisted dying for suffering,
terminally ill patients soon to die anyway?
Who is sabotaging the separation of Church and State, and all our
other Constitutional rights, freedoms, and protections?
Who are the moralizing hypocrites forcing their puritanical
inhibitions and prohibitions on ALL Americans via legislation and
draconian, police-state enforcement practices?
Who always puts personal gain and corporate wealth and power above
the common good?
CONSERVATIVES OR LIBERALS?
The historic, undeniable truth is that these evils are THE NATURE
OF THE CONSERVATIVE BEAST!
Conservatives have distorted and demonized the word "liberal,"
whose true political meaning is favoring progressive change,
humanistic values, and opposition to authoritarianism. They
identify it with governmental waste and tolerance of criminality,
when in fact they themselves are guilty of abuses such as corporate
welfare bail-outs and tax evasion, fraud against investors, and
other white-collar crime. Conservatives fear and oppose all change
and progress beyond "what's in it for me?"
At the core of conservatism is the Machiavellian bully - the
despotic practitioner of "might makes right," craving wealth and
power, and willing to use any and all means to get them.
Conservatism is the philosophy of the caveman wearing a business
suit.
