JCT: Last week, John Bruce McBurney, the President of the
Brantford Inventor's Club, was driving along the Hwy 404
north of Toronto and was stopped by the OPP. The lady
officer smelled marijuana in his car and decided to charge
him with possession of a dozen joints. Think about that, she
decided to put an ordinary citizen through the wringer for a
lousy few joints. She told him he could probably pay some
money to charity to get off. But still, into the wringer he
went. Except he was going to be a little harder to pass than
normal.

Bruce decided to try to win it through intimidation. So he
printed out the three motion for Quash, Constitutional Stay,
and Return of Pot. When he got to the Newmarket courthouse,
he told the Duty Counsel that he'd been told there was some
kind of deal that could be done or he was going to serve and
the three motions on the Crown that day.

Needless to say, the Duty Counsel was impressed by the in-
hand documentation. So he went off to tell the Crown what
Bruce was going to do and came back with the offer to do 20
hours of voluntary community service and he'd get an
absolute discharge.

He was thrilled and took the deal. And I'd bet the Crown was
thrilled he took the deal and save them hundreds of hours of
work over a lousy dozen joints.

So Winning Through Intimidation works again. Glad to have a
happy ending.
