I am new to this group. I wandered in here about a couple of weeks ago and
have been lurking ever since.
My name is John Hammond and I'm from Kentucky. I have been a John Denver fan
since I was a kid and I guess I'll always be one. Fact is, that my whole
family is a bunch of John Denver fans.
I'm real excited to be here and I'm looking forward to meeting all of you.
John
>my whole
>family is a bunch of John Denver fans.
Please invite me to your next family reunion.....none of my family are fans. :(
I have also been a JD fan since I was 12 years old....that seems like a long
time ago. First saw him on The Tonight Show, singing Rocky Mt High, and the
rest is history.
There are all sorts of people here, with varying opinions (including some
trolls). Sometimes things are "tactfully" spoken, and sometimes not. We just
move on. Please join in, and post often.
Diane
>I'm real excited to be here and I'm looking forward to meeting all of you.
John -
No need to apologize, jumping right in is the best way, actually. We are
excited to have you here! and look forward to your posts.
:-))
Phyliss
Most of my family are JD fans too, though I don't think to the extent I am :))
Peace,
Tricia
My name is Kenny and I live in Vermont. I have been reading your group for
about 2 months. One of the first things I looked for on the internet was
information about John Denver. I have been a fan since I was about 14. I was
thrilled to find so much information out there.
I noticed that this group is mostly women (correct me if I'm wrong). Do you
have room for a gentleman?
Regards,
Kenny G.
Nice to see some fresh faces. Just watch out for trolls, keep an open mind
and stick around.
So since Nick and Martin never answered me:
Have you ever been to a concert?
How many cds/records/tapes to you have?
What's your favorite song?
And do you know how tall JD was?

No, I never had the pleasure. I would have liked to, but the world got in the
way.
>How many cds/records/tapes to you have?
Well now, I'd have to say I have all that I know of. But after reading this
newsgroup and searching the net, I've discovered I have about 12 more to get.
I have everything released domestically on old fashion LPs up through The
Flower that Shattered the Stone. I am missing most everything after that
except for the Wildlife Concert, which I have on CD. I have Montana Christmas
Skies on Video (where I borrowed my online identity from) and I have Oh God.

I've always been fond of Rocky Mountain High. And I really like Spirit.

Yeah, when I was married, we went to see a couple of concerts in Lexington. I
didn't always have the chance due to work and all.

Well, I never counted 'em. I reckon I've got all the albums, and about half
dozen or so of the CDs.

Well, that would be a toss up. I wooed my wife to Annie's Song and I'm partial

Don't know. Never got to meet the man.
So, did I pass? Y'all have made me feel right welcome. Thank you. All of
you.

Welcome, John. It's great to have you here. Kick off your "Thirsty Boots" and
grab a corner of "Grandma's Feather Bed." Set a spell, and leave a little of
the happiness you bring. We have ginger beer, coffee, lotus blossom tea and we
have Coors and Guinness for your pleasure. But, since you're from Kentucky,
how about a nice sipping whiskey? Jim Beam, ok?
Welcome to the family. Post often and have a good time.

But, gents, don't take to heart fair Val's flirting. The Captain of the Guard

WELCOME TO THE GROUP!
Even though you have only been here for a short time, and have inadvertantly
walked in on some difficult times for some people, you must know that this is a
group of people who dearly love and greatly respect John Denver.
Any person who feels the same way, is a part of the family and we all shall
feel the light shine a little brighter!
Glad you found us.
Judy
Always room for ANYONE! Welcome to the group.....so glad to expand the family!
Judy
<grin> Thanks, there *are* those of us who are male but not necessarily
"gentlemen". :)
Jim
You're right that there quite a few more women in the newsgroup than man...but
a gentle-man is more than welcome here.
For those of you who don't know me, I am Alison and I live on Cape Cod in
Massachusetts. I have been a fan of John Denver's for something like 20
years...and seen John in concert at least a dozen times, and in venues all over
the country--from North Conway, New Hampshire to St. Petersburg, Florida...to
Pine Knob in Michigan. And our birthdays are still only one day apart...but
John had a few years on me.

I went to see John once at Olympia Stadium in Detroit (first concert),
three times at Pine Knob in Detroit, once at Red Rocks Amphitheatre just
outside of Denver (first time in CO) and several times at Fiddlers Green.
I own various programs from these concerts and a T-shirt. Mostly too
broke to buy many souvenirs at the time. I own pretty much all JD
albuims, most on vinyl. Trying to replace those with CD so I don't wreck
the vinyl ones by overplaying them.
And he's 5'9" (Thanks for the FAQ, Emily Parris!)
Jim, who didn't know that 10 minutes ago. :)
Well, I've never been Beam man, myself, but I'm willing to try anything once.
Maybe you can show me the good qualities of the stuff.
I'll definitely take you up on the Guinness, but I'm partial to Fosters. If
you have any.
>Welcome to the family. Post often and have a good time.
Thank you. I'm sure I will--post often and have a good time.

Well, my Mamma alwasys told me that if she ain't got a ring on her finger,
she's fair game. Sounds like you need a little competition for the fair
maiden's hand.
If she'll have me, that is. I never could resist a challenge.

John
YEahhhhh!! Jim got an "A"! :D
Thank you, I've always liked it.

Oh well, does it help that I have put my hands in the hand prints at Hershey
Park in Pennsylvania, and that they fit? (Can I get extra credit for that?)
Regards,
Kenny G.
Ah Kenny, yes that counts, and by deductive reasoning based on the diameter of
the thumb and the distance between the moon mound and the sun mound on the left
and divided by the squareroot of the distance between Hershey and Vermont.....
I'd say you must be 5'9?
But for the real extra credit... do you play the guitar, sing, or anything
artsy?

yes, and thank you for noticing...someone finally did. I'm surprised you'd
watch those. Let's face it, not exactly high class drama, and Tapert likes to
play fast and loose with the Greek Pantheon. But, of course, he also decided
to skewer the Norse and Celtic Pantheon this year, too, so.... Actually, I
doubt I'll continue watching Herc anymore, unless Auto is on. They killed off
Iolaus, my favorite character and only reason for watching. I have this thing
for the blond sidekick, what can I say?

I really shouldn't encourage this, you know....the Captain, you know...oh,
what the hell. Maybe he'll appreciate me more...but then, maybe he won't.
Oh, what to do, what to do?
Gosh, no one's ever done this before.... Phyl? Lorrie? Mary? what do I do?
Me thinks fairlady you should give a token to each combatant, a scarf to one a
ribbon to the other... whomsoever does not get mud on the token shall win.
Get mud on their token? What exactly are you wishing them to do for
your hand? Mud wrestle? Joust? Mud pie making competition? Bare fist
fighting? Will they get half-nekkid to do any of this, and if so..can I
watch?

I don't "fancy" wrestling a half nekkid dude in the mud, let alone let him get
mud on my "token". Ain't no guy gonna' handle my token.
I was always terrible at mud pie making. Could never get down how minutes to
microwave. What a mess.
Gotta rule out bare fist fighting. Gotta keep this face pretty, ya know ?
Now, I've always preferred co-ed half-nekkid (the more nekkid the better) mud
wrestling. And Fiona, tag-team partners are always welcome.

Kind of like those beaches in Miami. Clothing optional. I mean, why do a bunch
of laundry later. Save the water and detergent and keep the ecology cleaner,
you know? We'll even recycle the mud!
> But for the real extra credit... do you play the guitar, sing, or anything

Well, you gave me an A already, so I don't need the extra credit. But
maybe we can apply this to next semester.
I used to play the guitar a lot. I played mostly acoustic, folk and
classical style stuff. I still have a six-string Fender acoustic and a
twelve string Madeira (Guild's cheap line). I also have a bum right hand
that doesn't allow me to play anymore. As for singing, well, I've always
been vocally challenged. I love to sing, just can't do it well.
Does poetry count as art? I've been published a few times, once in a JD
newsletter and once in a Pagan newsletter for taking third in their poetry
contest.
Jim
OH YEA Poetry counts. Poetry is up there with artsy, especially if you've been
published. Infact that's probably worth two extra credit questions.
Would you consider sharing your poems with us?
Ok John, Kenny...... you got compeitition...
Hey Joe, do YOU do anything artsy aside from creative mud sculpting?

Well, this is an unpublished one I wrote a while back, one of my
favorites. I found a jpg of Stonehenge at sunset and made a
poster of this on a pastel seascape. Very depressing and all.
Goodbye
Sunset on the water, shadows on the wall
Paintings in the cavern, forests in the fall
Moonlight on the mountains, starlight on the snow
Raindrops on the window, it's time for me to go
Sunlight on the meadow, sailboats on the sea
Pictures in the window, swallows in the tree
Ships on the horizon, seagulls on the shore
Snow upon the rooftops, I will not stay here more
Stories of tomorrow, songs of distant past
Lands of wild wonder, homes to reach at last
Times beyond the counting, tales of make-believe
The Misty Mountains beckon, it's time for me to leave
Memories of magick, wrapped in cellophane
Friends of one another, never seen again
A pebble in my pocket, a trail across the sky
A time of innocence, but now it's time to say...
Jim, I am your fan. That was absolutely beautiful. Now it's one of my
favorites too. I'm really going to like having you around here :-)
Peace and love,
Siri

Hello, Lady Theresa. It's been wacky indeed. Of course, that's what
makes it wonderful. As Heinlein said, down-to-earth can get boring.

Hello Richard! Glad to know there is another New Englander here.
Sorry for the delay in response, I've been having computer trouble. Over the
weekend I took a drive over the line to New Hamphire and drove through the
mountains to Wildcat to take in some "Downhill Stuff". Beautiful, just
beautiful. Had the music playing loud and clear the whole time.

> Jim----I certainly mean no disrespect to you,
> but tell me how down-to-earth can be boring,

No disrespect intended from me either.
Down-to-earth often means people whose lives are the
same day in and day out, never doing anything unusual,
and that is how I meant it.
Certainly living close to the earth can be exciting.
I don't think any of the people you mention can be
described as having lives the same day in and day out.
Jim
Actually, there are quite a few of us scattered through various parts of New
England, and it seems the list keeps growing!
