What did John Denver think of Elvis Presley? Did they ever meet?

I am not sure if they ever met, but read where John said that he admired
Elvis for doing what he wanted to do where music was concerned. Words
to that effect anyway.

I never heard John Denver mention anything about Elvis.....

We all know that alot of Elvis's band members joined John after Elvis passed
away....so we know what he thought of them....

I saw the Elvis Show last summer....Elvis was on a tape on a big screen and his
old band members were standing below performing the show live.......it gives me
goose bumps everytime I think of it......Elvis on the big screen...almost real
like, looks down at James Burton and says Thank you James.....and remembering
John Denver saying those same words......Thank you James, all thru those years
he was with John.

The stories those band members could tell, performing with both Elvis and John
Denver......wow........

I wonder if John Denver got to here any of the stories about Elvis....while
working with
those guys.....

He thought they were all great skydivers.

Dear Karen,
It is funny, isn't it?And I don't think John would ever be in fear of only
being shown from the waist up on the Ed Sullivan show!(although I could be
wrong!)

cheers-

I asked this question on the elvis newsgroup a couple of years ago. One
of the guys who was a member of the Memphis mafia responded to it.
Marty Lacker said that he is sure that John and Elvis did meet briefly
in the mid 70s but since he wasn't there at the time he didn't have any
details about it.
As far as what John thought of Elvis.....I once read a statement made
by John about Elvis. John said that he was impressed by the fact that
Elvis "did his own thing musically" and this helped John to have the
resolve to follow his own musical bent.
