I believe that she sang on other songs with John Denver as well. She also has
recorded CDs of her own. Believe she is still going strong. Does anyone know if
"Vartan's Jazz Club and Restaurant" in Denver, is owned by her?

>Hi Carol!

John wrote "Love Again" for Sylvie Vartan (who is a French singer and was
married to (and divorced) another French singer, Johnny Halliday) when she
married his friend Tony Scotti (of the "Scotti Brothers" record label).
That's why she's singing it with him. They had a pretty descent hit with it
too.

now is that as in to sing? or dedicated to? the story I heard was that it
was written for his mother when she remarried, because the version was
originally a solo one.

any new info? any where I can look to see for sure?

Well, I heard him tell that story, but other times he said that he wrote it
for his mother when she met her second husband. Well, when she began her
romance with him - I understand they already knew one another from years
ago, and met again when John persuaded her to go to a high school reunion to
cheer her up when she was down over the death of his father.

Peace, in John's memory,

Not sure when his mom remarried. I know that John had met Cassandra around that

time, too. This song was written in 1984, and he met her in, or around 1985,
although
they did not marry until 1988. I am wondering if it was written for Cassandra?
Have
no idea though. Maybe I have some dates confused here. It could very well be
for
his mom, or Sylvie as well. I can't find anything on this in writing. Will
keep looking.
Here are the words to it:

LOVE AGAIN

Words & Music by John Denver

I didn't think it could happen again
I'm just too old and set in my ways
I was convinced I would always be lonely
All of the rest of my days

Maybe I gave up on romance
In my longing to give up the pain
I just didn't believe
I would ever love again

I was like one who had shut myself in
Closed the windows; locked all the doors
Afraid of the dark and the beat of my heart
And yet, knowing there had to be more

Though it sounds like a great contradiction
It's the easiest thing to explain
You see I was afraid
I might never love again

What does it take for a blind man to see
That there's more there than just meets the eye
What are the ways that the magic comes in
That can turn a song into a sigh

Sometimes I think that I'm dreaming
Or maybe I'm going insane
Or maybe it's just that
I'm falling in love again

Here I am standing beside you
Ah life's such a wonderful game
Look at me now I've fallen in love again
Look at me now I've fallen in love again (John Denver)

The version I heard him tell was that he wrote that for his mother when she
was dating her second husband.

Carol,

I'm sure you've heard by now, but Sylvie Vartan was a friend of John's who had
fin--\
ally found love after divorce. She did a duet with him on FrenchTV--very sexy.
I found the duet frustrating because they sang in the same register.

Peace,
Pat

My understanding is that he wrote it when his Mom was having her first
romantic interest after his Dad. I don't think that the man was the one
she married. The song was written in 1984 and Erma married her high
school "crush" after re-connecting with him at the 50th anniversary
reunion. In 1984, she would have been 62 and 50 years before, she would
have been only 12!
In Oct. of 1994, when I heard John talk about his Mom and her marriage,
I got the impression that it was a recent happening.

They did the duet on UK TV too. John in a tux, Sylvie in a long white
dress, as I recall.
