One more post from me. I read someone asking him/herself if John would have
realized he would be missed so much. That reminded me of something I read a
while ago. It was written by Neale, writer of Conversations with God.
"Not long ago I was sitting around with my friend John and we were just talking
about life. Mainly, life on the road. John and I had each spent a lot of time
on the road the first six months of this year, and we were both a bit road
weary.
At one point John looked at me and said, very quietly, "I don't know, Neale.
Sometimes I wonderwhether it's all worth it."
I was a bit surprised. John's life had seemed to me to be about as bountiful as
anyone's life could be, andhis contributions to the planet were conspicuous and
enormous. I told him so. But it was the way that Itold him which struck me. I
don't know why I did what I did, or said what I said. But suddenly, for
noapparent reason, I sat myself directly in front of him and looked him
straight in the eye.
"John," I said, and I was feeling very solemn, very serious - which is unlike
me - "if I never see youagain, know this: your life and work has touched so
many people. So many. It has touched them withlight and love, it has brought
them smiles and gladness, great joy and upliftment, and yes, even hope. Youhave
meant so much to so many, John. Yes, it has been worth it. Profoundly, yes.
Don't ever, ever, everthink otherwise."
My friend looked at me searchingly, and I thought I saw him become just a
little misty-eyed. "Thank youfor saying that to me," he said".
Thought you might enjoy this. Feel free to visit <A
