I've written Cherry Hill, Windstar, RCA, Milt Okun and everyone else
I can think of that had something to do with this concert, and no one
seems to know anything, but I wasn't imagining these cameras: they
definitely recorded it.
BTW the TV special with the same title, broadcast in 1975 was a
totally different show, and isn't from John's concerts at Universal
Amphitheater in August 1974.

It's been almost 35 years. I was "used to it" about 30 ago. Every
passing year is a greater probability the video of this astonishingly
beautiful event will be lost forever. Unless you were there you have
no clue what I mean, or why I'm trying so hard to find this. Look at
the still photos inside the original album cover for some idea, or listen
closely to the audience reaction when the video screens behind John
were fired up (at the front end of "Mother Nature's Son"). It was
so beautiful I damn near fainted, along with the rest of the audience.

This much I know: first, it was recorded on video, and second, I've
stumbled on very brief clips of it over the years (e.g. during "Matthew",
but only a few seconds of it at at time, in promos and intro montages
for John). And during the concert I counted at least three camera
rigs, one in front and two at either end of the stage.
I went to a Crue concert once, and there was a larger than life movie
camera there as well, had wheels and a chair for the cameraman built
in, so big it had motors and image stabilizers that alone cost more
than your car, not counting the camera that is. I thought cool,
perhaps I might see something here in a Crue video. Well that camera
was probably at every Crue concert during this tour. That's two hours
times fifty or so shows and perhaps 10 seconds of live footage might
make it onto a video, or perhaps not. That's what makes live footage
special, it can't be created, it just happens and if the lenz isn't
on, it's missed. You are not owed ANYTHING for being there, though I
haven't bothered to look up if there was such a concert, cause you are
amusing.
Do yourself a favor, go buy a copy of Oh God or the Wildlife Concert
on DVD.........You have them right?

Who said that?
Look, apparently English isn't your first language. Ciao.

it is amazing that a fan of John's could be such an asshole.

When you say "no one seems to know", did they just not answer or did
they answer and say that they don't know? I would also love to see
this video. Obviously, the audio is fine. Now if we could just get
someone to release the video.
Hopefully someone will explain usenet to him someday.

Both. No response from RCA or Windstar. Cherry Hill and Milt
Okun referred me to John's 1975 TV special of the same name,
but this was a studio performance, not from his concerts at the
Universal Amphitheater in August 1974.
I mentioned elsewhere in this thread that I've seen short clips of it
over the years (mostly from Matthew, but also Eagle and the Hawk
and Thank God I'm a Country Boy). It's out there, somewhere.
As far as saying "Obviously, the audio is fine" to something that you
have never seen or heard, OK, if you say so.
Cheers....................

The album was released in 1975, duh!

For those who know or have heard of John Denver, his life, his songs,
and his experiences have been legendary. Bursting onto the scene in
the early '70s, Denver used his skill of folk-rock and mastery of
composition to bring light and heartfelt spirit to the world of music.
This compilation is remarkably engineered and produced. "I've been
looking forward to this for a long, long time," said Denver during
this live recording for RCA at the California Universal Amphitheater
in August/September of 1974.
Thus the live album was a compilation from various dates, which is
what I said was the purpose of the cameras to begin with.
Now just to please you, I'm going to play Back Home
Again...........just for the fun of it.

John played seven consecutive nights, starting 8/26/74. I was there
opening night, and nearly all of what was chosen for the album is
from this one performance. I know this because of John's opening
remarks, noises and minor mistakes during the songs etc. Not that
anyone cares, but when John tells the crowd the show is being
recorded for RCA, before the rest of the audience reacts you can
hear a guy in the distance yell "alright". That was me. Anyway,
by these minor kinds of things I know very few songs were taken
from other nights.
You also seem unable to understand that I've seen video clips
from the show over the years. The question isn't whether it was
recorded, it's simply a matter of finding it.
Again, what you saw and heard, was not necessarily captured on film as
you saw and heard it.
"finding it" Where do you think it is? lost in the bushes? It's most
likely in an RCA Vault and if it were worth digital restoration, I am
sure that it would have been done by now.
My electric Country Roads is kinda cool too. I run an acoustic
simulation through my Gibson Standard, see you may have lost John, but
he is always near here.

I told him we've been waiting 35 years, another one is no problem.
Denver fans rejoice: this video will take your breath away.
