Does anybody know what John was singing after the first part of the
chorus:

Aye Calypso......so long and so well

Then what was he singing after" ..so well"? Are there actual lyrics to
this part?? I've listened to his record many times and can't figure it
out!

Calypso
Words & Music by John Denver
from Windsong (1975)

To sail on a dream on a crystal clear ocean,
to ride on the crest of a wild raging storm
To work in the service of life and living,
in search of the answers of questions unknown
To be part of the movement and part of the growing,
part of beginning to understand,

Aye Calypso the places you've been to,
the things that you've shown us,
the stories you tell
Aye Calypso, I sing to your spirit,
the men who have served you so long and so well

Hi dee ay-ee ooo doo-dle oh
oo do do do do do doo-dle ay yee
doo-dle ay ee

Like the dolphin who guides you, you bring us beside you
To light up the darkness and show us the way
For though we are strangers in your silent world
To live on the land we must learn from the sea
To be true as the tide and free as a wind swell
Joyful and loving in letting it be

Aye Calypso the places you've been to,
the things that you've shown us,
the stories you tell
Aye Calypso, I sing to your spirit,
the men who have served you so long and so well

Hi dee ay-ee ooo doo-dle oh
oo do do do do do doo-dle ay yee
doo-dle ay ee

he dee Ay-ee
Hi dee oh ooo
hi dee ayee
hi dee oh ooo

Best,

I'm singing as loud as I can, The next thing I"ll hear is that you think I am
singing off key and that I simply can't abide. After all while swinging in the
coconut tree I not only sang We Shall Overcome but harmonized with myself as
well. Sue

Thanks for the reply! Yes I'm singing along and playin' my 6 string but
this is what I hear listening to the original soundtrack:

Hi-dee-ay-do do do do do do
Oh do lo-do do do do do do
Hi-dee-ay-do do do do do do
Oh do lo-do--do--do--do

..or something close

I know the lyrics below have been posted for years on OLGA but is it
just my ears or is John singing something else? Listen carefully to the
song and if I'm wrong let me know.

Guess I'll have to take time to listen to John singing Calypso while looking
at the words and determine if they are the same or not. But life is too hectic
around here for that right now. The words I sent were those that I had copied
from my 'John Denver Anthology' piano/vocal book. ~ Joy

Hi Joy,

The lyrics (all of them!) that I sent were copied off of Fabio Zucco's site. I am
assuming that they are correct. I don't care what John says..I just love the
song! ;>)

LOL! I have no idea why the refrain varies between our two sources, but
WHATEVER John sang was the correct way to be sure!
No doubt that when John would have the audience join him in the refrain during
a concert that there were many variations of that being sung :D But YES! We
will keep on singing this wonderful song!!! ~ Joy
