Sister woke me up
As he fell out of the sky
There's a golden place
Where the angels crash and die
You can jab and poke
But what did you ever give?
I don't hear your voice
Resonate like his
Hear it resonate like his
You were endless fuel
Burning fast and burning free
Not a wide eyed fool
That fell into the sea
That vanished in the sea
You're alive and good St.John
As The A.M. Waves Live On
You belong as much to me
As a shipped steered to the sea
As a ship steered to the sea
You're the corner stone
Filled my room with sun
When the polished vinyl spun
I will see your face
Crashing down against the wind
And it's a sadder place
When that crackling vinyl spins
When the crackling vinyl spins
You still living good St.John
High up in the yellow sun
We can find your vacant grin
In every dusty thrift store bin
You're a dime a dozen win
You're a dime a dozen win
And you're far beyond me
But your dreams touch so soon
And you're life was big and for
Like your words so beautiful
Dum de dum de dum
Always echo across the world

Cheers,
Lisette--
.
Lisette, this was the poem that acted as the frontispiece on the insert
of the tribute CD that Kozelek produced five years ago called (I
believe) "Take Me Home." The CD featured various independent bands
(including Kozelek's Red House Painters) doing interesting covers of JD
songs. What some feared would be a mockery turned into a project that
was at least interesting. I enjoyed it very much, though many of our
former regular posters here did not. I'd still say that the CD is worth
its price, and I loved the poem.
Cheers,
Jim

I've just been listening to some of the sample tracks on Amazon,Jim,and
they're pretty 'out there' as cover versions go,I must say. Some of the
tracks seem to have only a passing resemblence to the tunes they're supposed
to be singing-and one of John's strengths was writing a killer melody.I'm
all for wild reworkings of songs to give then a different flavor, but ya
gotta keep the melody faithful,or it's just not the same song,IMO.But other
tracks I like.I'll have to hear more to decide what I think of it as a
whole. At least finally we have young artists standing up & admitting they
like him, regardless of whether it's 'cool' or not.His work is beig looked at
again, and that has to be a good thing.
.I liked "Minneapolis Does Denver" so maybe I'll like this one..That was a
pretty cool album.
I'd still say that the CD is worth

.It's makes a lovely.lovely song.>sniff!< (Damn that bladder in my eye I ws
born with!)
I've downloaded the tune on my computer, and I sent my sister a copy..If
anybody wants me to send them a copy of the mp3 file (3.56MB,3.53 minutes
long,works on Real Player,WMV & Quicktime)via email,I'm more than happy to
do it.The lovely sparse guitar rather reminds me of the earlier albums like
Farewell Andomeda & Rocky Mountain High.Very nice.:-)
