Hi Everyone,
I went to see Dan Fogelberg in concert Friday night. Next to
John Denver, Dan Fogelberg is one of my favorites. The concert
was really great, not only is he a great songwriter, he is a
wonderful musician. At one point in the concert he said" I
would like to dedicate this next song to two great men that
we lost this year, Jacques Cousteau, and of course John Denver."
The audience yelled and applauded. He played the "Reach" off of
his Innocent Age CD. It's such a good song. I was singing along
to it and tears just started flowing. It was an outdoor concert,
the stars shining, a gentle breeze blowing the trees, my heart
and senses where so full of Dan's voice and guitar playing, and
thoughts of love for John. I looked around me and saw other
people crying also.
Since John Denver's death, all I have listened to is him, of
course! When he was alive, all I listened to was him! But
occasionally when I would listen to someone else, one artist
was Dan Fogelberg. His music is like John's in that it's about
nature and the world around us. There is a song on Dan
Fogelberg's CD "The Wild Places" called Bones in the Sky.
The music and words reminded me of John:
Up through the branches
The stars shine above
On the arroyos
And mesas you loved
And as the moon rises
The black mountain mourns
For the old fiend
He'll look on no more

Jacks-in-the-Pulpit
Bones in the sky
Long winding rivers
That never ran dry
And the secrets she gathered
From the wild blowing sands
breathed in her heart
and her hands

I sing to your spirit
Where all my dreams dwell
The vision-the freedom
The life lived so well
And I sing in your canyons
And the echoes ring clear
And I wish somehow
You may still hear

Sorry so long, Friday was so special, just wanted to share it!
Peace
Laurie

Oh, Laurie - those lyrics gave me goosebumps! Bet the tune was beautiful too.
Hope Dan Fogelberg gets to Oklahoma sometime soon. --Mary :-)

I just ordered our tickets today for the July 20th performance of Dan's
at Wolf Trap in Virginia. I always liked the "other guy" from Colorado
but this will be a little difficult since the last time I was at Wolf
Trap was to see John last July. Peace and Love, Carolyn

its long but i think worth it.....enjoy

this island earth

calling all dreamers and optimistic fools
don't let go of your dream
make it now, make it all come true
if you believe in a brighter day
i know we can find our way

to this island, in the starry ocean
poetry in motion
this island earth
spinning like a dancer
gravity is the answer
rendevous in the blue
this island earth

well i don't know whats in store today
we could spread our wings and we could sore away
or we could go like the dinosaurs they say
the choice is ours to make
it only seems like this to me
we could wake up one day and be history
or stick around to unravel the mystery
of how we came to be

on this island
in the starry ocean
poetry in motion
this island earth
beautiful oasis
for all human races
the only home that we know
this island earth

well i know we can touch the stars someday
kick up the dust on mars one day
or trip the light on the milky way
we've got to find our way

if you're lookin for a miracle open your eyes
there was one this mornin just about sunrise
dawn came breakin like a wave on the sea
its there for you and me

calling all dreamers and optimisic fools
don't let go of your dream
make it now, make it all come true
if you believe in a brighter day
i know we can find our way

to this island
in the starry ocean
poetry in motion
this island earth
spinning like a dancer
gravity is the answer
rendevous in the blue
this island earth
rendevous with the moon
this island earth
the only home that we know
this island earth

In article <199804201335...@ladder01.news.aol.com>,
I still remember back in the 70's...the first time I saw Dan in concert...
he mentioned John, he picked up a guitar saying it was his John Denver
guitar...don't remember what he played but it sure sounded like John's
music!
"Bones In The Sky" is one of my favorite D.F. songs...it was written for
Georgia O'Keefe...an amazing artist and person.
Dan has always been my #2 favorite singer...of course John is #1!
peace,
Laura
