BIO: MALCOLM S. MACDONALD
Malcolm MacDonald began his training early in the healing arts
at age 13, with the studies of herbology, diet, and yoga in Boston at
the Hippocrates Institute. After 'Great Books' and writing special
studies in high school, Malcolm went on to Saint Michael's, a private
college in Vermont. Graduating cum laude in 1976 with BA's in
psychology, philosophy, and writing, and hungry for the spark of
important teachers, he traveled to the Western US to pursue the healing
power now driving him. Malcolm studied for two years under the
venerable Ping Lee of San Francisco, in the arts of cooking, Chinese
Five Elements, Barefoot Shiatsu, and the way of herbs and Chi. and with
Pao of Vietnam. In 1986 Malcolm graduated from the Berkeley Institute
of Oriental Healing Arts. By this time, his innate talents were
already blooming, and was especially known for the power of Chi in his
hands. Malcolm studied Chinese Kung Fu and Shing-I with Steve Machado
of CO, and George Xu of San Francisco since 1991. Further studies
continued in Colorado in macrobiotics/yin-yang theory/diet therapy with
Jerome Canty, and his teacher Michio Kushi of Japan. At this time also,
Malcolm taught at his own clinic in Aspen, Co., called 'Avalon'. It was
in this clinic that Malcolm instructed over one-hundred students in the
healing arts, and personally worked with thousands of patients. In these
years, from 1978 through 1986, Malcolm shaped the teachings passed on to
him in the crucible of Avalon. He likens this growing to a musician,
who upon hearing inspiring music moves into his own powerful
expression. Malcolm studied from 1987-present with the Human Validation
Process Model of family therapy with Virginia Satir, and importantly her
peer Steven Young. This is a way of understanding people in the context
of their family system, and focusing on what's blooming. Malcolm
considers that it is this work that expanded his God-given healing gifts
the most. He has facilitated men's groups with Steven called "Father,
Son's, and Brother's" for the last twelve years, and numerous family
reconstructions. It is this work, combined with all of the physical
arts, that focused Malcolm's influence as effective, and usuable. In
1987, John Denver called upon Malcolm's reputation and expertise to
assist him on the road and at home, to keep him fit, well-informed, and
clear to do his work. John found not only health and prospering
familial connections, but a trusted advisor, counsel, and close friend
as well. Since 1988, Malcolm has traveled extensively around the world
with John and other musicians/entertainers, in such diverse company as
the Dalai Lama and Presidents, to the ghettos in Bombay and the refugees
in Vietnam. Currently, Malcolm is cowriting articles on medicinal and
traditional American recipes with Steven Young, for "You" magazine in
Japan. He is co-writing also with Steven, a new book called "Self Care
On and Off the Road;" a very useful book providing ways to stay
connected and healthy in this fast paced and oft traveled world.
Malcolm is president of Skye Group International, a distribution company
who's purpose is to disseminate powerful healing tools, arts, and
