Help us name our dog. He is a 12 wk old chocolate labrador retriever. It
is only fitting that his name reflect Jimmy and the lyrics that shape our
life. I seem to recall a newsgroup or web board some time ago that featured
numerous pet names based on Bubba's influence. There were some great
submissions, but can't seem to find any reference on the web. Figured it
best to seek the council of the masses. Who better to offer up suggestions
that fellow parrotheads anyway? I kinda like 12 volt man or land shark.
Any other ideas out there? Thanks folks!

Doug

I defer to Cap'n Ron. I've never been able to match his creativity when
it comes to namin' your pets.

Is there any name for a dog besides Spooner?

It has nothing to do with Jimmy, but for some reason I like calling big dark
dogs Wiener Dog, or Pookie. Maybe it's the juxtoposition? You could always
call him Pirate.

I've got a Border Collie I named Parakeet (Keet for short) . . . being the
"child" of my Parrothead family.

I've got one for you: Coconut (as in Telegraph) . . . he (the dog) is brown
and fuzzy, so is the coconut. Good?

I think Trini would be a great dog name, as in Club Trini. Iris Tramm's dog
was named Meadows in Don't Stop The Carnival; also a great consideration.

Good luck,

I had a gold lab years ago named Atley (nothing to do with Buffett, but I
thought it was a cool name).I also had registered beagles with the
"official" names of "Clear Skies" and "Flying Ace", but we called them
Sky and Fly (they were identical littermates). Right now I have a
Rottweiler/lab mix named Muffin (as in "Cosmic Muffin"...and believe me,
she is one spaced-out dog) and a cat named Lola.

A good idea when choosing a name is to practice calling it...you probably
don't want to sound like a complete idiot when you're calling your dog,
and some names just don't work well. If a name you like sounds goofy when
you call it, try some variations...for example, instead of Land Shark try
Sharky.
Some names that I've considered for pets:
Jimmy(or Jim), Frank (or Frankie), Tully (or Mars), Billy, Hannah, Romeo,
Slade, Freddy, Joe, Merchant, Pirate, Cosmic, Hemi, Bogey, Twain,
Cameron, Marley, Bob, Rasta, Rummy......

Well, that's about all I can think of on a Monday morning. Good luck with
the new pup and let us all know how he's doing.

We have a German shorthair pointer that was already named "Finn" before we
got him. The connection didn't occur to me until I read your post.

Finn's to the left! Finn's to the right!

I have birds named Dixie, Quake, Creola, Frank and Lola, but when it came to
naming our kitten we couldn't "agree" on anything and before we knew it his
name just became "Kitty" ..... it'll be strange if he turns out to be a huge
ol' tomcat won't it?

Hi,

We like to name our animals after places we have lived or visited that
hold some special meaning to us. We currently have one shepard mix named
Biloxi (for where me and my fiancee met), and a border collie mix named
Jupiter (no, we haven't been to the planet - its for Jupiter Fl where we
spent a great vacation). We also have 2 ferrets named Cayo and Hueso for
the 6 years I spent living in Key West. I have had other dogs named
Charleston, called him Charlie for short, and a cat named Pensacola, Cola
for short. This method is not for all, but it seems to work well for us.

You were only one year shy of obtaining the coveted, "Honorary Conch"
status. Why in the name of St. Barbara did you move?

Uncle Sam made me do it...I was stationed down there (Air Force), then they
sent me to lovely San Antonio Texas when the unit closed. I just finished
my 20 years and am now in process of moving back to Florida, my native
state! And actually, I did get Honorary Conch status as well as Ambassador.
When our squadron there closed, everyone who had 5 or more years got them.
It was pretty cool. I miss the area alot and go back as often as possible.
And my dog, Biloxi...he is a conch puppy, we rescued him from the pound
there.
