Dear Friends,

If you are like me and like old time country music and bluegrass,
if you knew who Ralph Stanley was before you saw "Oh Brother",
if someone yells "Play some Hank!"
and you reply "Snow, Thompson, Ballard or Williams?",
if you like songs about lovin', fightin', drinkin', cryin', drivin',
trains, trucks, tractors, dogs, shotguns, moonshine, BBQ, heartache, misery,
joy, ecstacy, possums and the general ups and downs of life told by real folks
armed with bangos, mandolins, guitars, jugs and washboards...
then freinds - I have a website for you!

www.wxgi.com

the internet broadcast webpage for WXGI AM950,
the world's oldest all country & bluegrass radio station located on German
School
Rd in Southside Richmond, VA.

It was started at the end of the 40s by 2 ex-GI's with surplus army radio gear
- hence the station call letters WXGI and is an icon of legend in the great
hall of Country music history.

Every Saturday morning I tune into the D.J.Barnet & Dewey Dawson Sat. Morning
Bluegrass Show from 6am-9:30am ...check it out - this is the REAL THING!!!!
Learn all about DJ, Dewey, possums, 40 weight coffee & cathead biscuits!!!
You might even hear me, ol' cap'n ron call in to request a Jimmy Martin song
or discuss the latest on the whereabouts of Wesley the Possum!

Mid-day weekdays it's a great playlist of songs with DJ Uncle Wiley Southworth
- the best friend a country song ever had!

So, getcha a big ol' cupa 40 wt coffee, some cathead biscuits and tune yer
internet radio PC or MAC dial to www.wxgi.com
...proudly playing music made before 1970!!! or as Uncle Wiley sez
"A pick-up truck load of the new and a coal train full of the real stuff!"

tell'em cap'n ron sent'cha!

Speaking of which reminded me of some radio shows I used to listen to in the
late 80s, but were classics from the older days of country and western and
bluegrass...Remember the shows by Tommy Vale? Or also, Truckin' Tom T and
Rowdy Red? Can't remember if I listened to them out of the station in
Spindale, NC or Statesville...But I do remember listening to them with my
brother on Sundays when we were checkin' the trot line or makin' some 'cue
on the sunny shores of Lake Norman.

so THAT's where the rest of our Sunday morning breakfast went! I told 'em that
somebody musta snuck in here and snatched that scratch batch, but they wouldn't
believe me, kept saying something about the flour on the my chin.

NB......stirring up some orange blossom honey and butter, just waiting on that
perfect golden blush to appear on the next tin full.

Wahoo! Finally a station that plays on Windows Media player and not
Real Radio. Thanks, Cap'n.

hey, ron, i was just listening to that on friday. excellent music,
although the sound on windows media is kind of echoey (at least on
this box). i could have done without the good friday preaching, but
the guy was sweet about it; said his say and then back to the music.

at&t cable, at least here, has an Traditional Country channel on DMX,
and it plays a lot of cool music. some gluck from the 60s, but also a
lot of haggard, loretta, and such. i grew up listening to old country
and cowboy music, and as i got older, the tunes my daddy stuck into my
head slipped into my heart. it's kind of ironic that the advancement
of broadband technology is becoming the one place you can hear real
CW; you damn sure don't hear it on 99% of the so-called country
stations.

btw, i found that WMP is available for mac. gonna give it a try this
evening when i get home.
