Hamilton Pool in Austin just reopened, and I hear Barton Springs is also
nice, too. I don't know if McKinney Falls allow swimming, though.

Hamilton is an absolute jewel, but call first, especially starting around
this time of year. It's often closed on a day-to-day basis due to high
coliform bacteria levels from the swallow guano. It's out of the way, but
definitely worth the trip

Barton Springs is probably the best developed swimming hole in all of Texas.
About 1/4 mile long, pure, crystal clear spring water feeds the pool at a
rate tens of tens of millions of gallons/day, always 68 degrees. Plenty of
lounging areas. Interesting people. It's an absolute must visit.

There's also an area below the dam at Barton Springs where you can get in
free. You'll have be willing to put up with lots of dogs with their humans,
a few vagrants and a couple areas along the banks where you need to watch
your step - or avoid completely due to the overpowering odor of urine, and
I'm not talking about the dogs.
But most of the area below the dam is just fine and the water pouring over
the dam at the previously mentioned rates is clean, cool and, even white for
maybe 30 yards, depending on the flow of the springs. It is *the* perfect
place to exercise the hounds and cool off on a typically sweltering Austin
summer day.
Cheers,
Dusty

Any ladies go topfree at Barton Springs? Nothing wrong with it. If a
man can take his shirt off then why can't a woman if she wants to?
